heading to south east asia in a few weeks namely thailand,laos,cambodia,vietnam and jjst looking to know what shots i would have to get? also were would be the cheapest place to get them around dublin?

I know there has been a few vaccination threads, but couldn't find one covering the different providers.

There are a few providers, and there is a small price difference between them:

Does anyone know if there is a difference in terms of service and knowledge between the providers, or is it a case of choosing the cheapest option?

TMB is often mentioned in threads, but i assume that is only because they are longest established?

Hi,

Apologies if this post already appears in the forum.

I will be traveling to Peru in June and need to get my vaccinations as soon as possible, 6 months in advance I was told. I am wondering where is the cheapest clinic in Dublin to get these or rather, what kind of price should you expect to pay?

Travel Health Clinic on Dawson St charge €135
Includes 'recommended' vaccines + one-off consultation fee for that trip + prescription.

I believe that the recommended vaccinations as quoted on their site are:

Tetanus / Diphtheria
Hepatitis A
Typhoid

Whilst the optional vaccinations are:

Yellow Fever x1 €40
Hepatitis B x4 €35 each
Rabies x3 €35 each

Are these normal prices or can they be found cheaper anywhere else in Dublin?

Cancun is one of the safer and most hygenic places on Mexico but no harm to have Hep A and Typhoid shots.

I just went to my local doctor....TMB wanted to charge me a consultation fee whereas my doctor just sent me direct to the nurse.

What are you expecting from the clinics? You tell them where you are going. They'll tell you which vaccinations you need. Just go to wherever is handiest.

Heading to Jamaica for a wedding/holiday with all the family in July. I wouldn't have thought to get injections before heading over but it's been suggested and I'm just wondering how necessary it is? We'll have two young kids with us too.

We've been to the Caribbean before ( Turks & Caicos) and never got any so just wondering!

Whatever about you, get your children done. I couldn't forgive myself if I didn't get my kids the reccomended vaccinations and they got sick with something that could have been preventable.

I will do thanks-no harm in asking here also, I just thought i'd ask here to see did other people who traveled to the area get the shots or not.

It's not somewhere I thought I would need to get them for. Better to be safe than sorry I guess.

Hi. We are travelling to Mexico just on a three week holiday fairly soon. I kind of assumed there would be no visa or vaccinations needed, would I be correct? Is there anything similar that needs to be done? We'd be near to Cancun if it makes a difference.

You are correct, no VISA or vaccinations are required for Irish citizens travelling to Mexico. Just make sure to look after the Tourist Card as you will need to present it when leaving (You are supposed to carry it with you at all times in case it is requested by authorities, but in my own experience it is never requested).

Hi all, just wondering what the best option is for getting vaccinations for Thailand. There's a number of places in Dublin City center that specialize in them. Has anyone used those services before? Is it better to go to your doctor or does it really matter?

Hi there,

I have applied eVisitor visa for Australia with pending status and have been told by Australian immigration that I need to have Polio Vaccine with letter saying it has to be done before my travel / eVisitor application approved if I had travelled recently to Country on list they mentioned which I actually have visted since 2014.

Since this is recently requirement by WHO, so I'm just wondering if there is any place I can get Polio only vaccine at lowest price possible in Dublin as I don't need bunch of other Travel vaccines.
Whereas I checked one in Dublin (Travel Healh Clinic, Dawson street) who ask for €60 as doctor consultancy fee on top of actual Polio vaccine price €20 only.

I checked with my GP who said they don't do it anymore due to original GP is on maternity leave.

On side note, would medical card be accepted to wave off doctor consultancy anywhere else as Travel Healh Clinic won't accept medical card.

Any suggestions.

Medical card does not cover travel vaccine consultations - and is only valid at a different doctor in case of emergencies or something covered your own GP doesn't do, e.g. some sexual health stuff.

A doctor you haven't seen before won't give you the shot only; they'll need to talk through some stuff with you. If you find one that will, be worried about their standards!

This morning I booked flights for Bali for my daughter's wedding next October. The travel agent gave us a list of necessary vaccinations and another list of vaccinations that were recommended.

This afternoon I looked online at the cost of the various vaccinations and almost had a heart attack :eek:

The prices quoted were on the Tropical Medical Bureau's website. Does anyone know if the prices would be cheaper at a GP rather than a specialist clinic? I'm assuming (hoping) they would be.

Anyway, what do people think - are these vaccines really necessary or are they just a bit of a con trick to squeeze a few quid out of inexperienced travellers? I won't be traipsing through jungles or drinking the local water etc, I'll just be living it up in a nice, fancy hotel for two weeks, occasionally venturing out to some nightclubs in the city.

They have mosquito's in nice fancy hotels too. They are equal opportunity malaria givers.

Most GP's will give you a prescription for the vaccines and you will have to buy them from the pharmacy yourself. (Medical card does not cover travel vaccines) and then have to pay for them to be administered. Prices could vary between pharmacies so might be worth runging around. Bear in mind your travel Insurance will unlikely cover you if you get ill out there if you do not have the vaccines

I was working in Hong Kong...a nice big city..I got vaccines as necessary.

I've also been in Africa and as I learned, you don't know where someone elses hands have been.
I also updated my vaccines and took anti malaria tablets.

Only an idiot wouldn't get vaccinated.

You've obviously not seen what some of these diseases do if you get them!

Mosquitos and bugs everywhere. I wouldn't run the risk.

We were in Mexico recently, and like you we stayed in swishy 5 star luxury resorts, drank bottled water, used bottled water to brush our teeth etc. But I still got the damn vaccines.

This is a question for your doctor. I say this with respect but I'd question your sanity if you took advice to the contrary from boards members.
My own (totally non expert) view is get the vaccinations or at least get expert medical advice.

GP is probably cheaper. We were in Malaysia last year and no injections were recommended at all.
