Why are dole bashing threads allowed?

Seriously fcuk these threads why are they not just locked straight away. Most of us on the dole are having a hard enough time and can be very down and isolated from being stuck in the house, struggling with bills, being looked down on, etc. I am not on the dole because I'm lazy, I'm on the dole because there is so little jobs in the Northwest where I live and I can't afford to get the money together to move to Dublin or out of Ireland where there is more work.

Any other condition that people couldn't control would not be deemed fair game for online abuse, why do boards allow constant dole bashing threads when many of us are not on the dole by choice?

And in fairness, it's not as if we are going to cover any new ground with these threads, they all go the same way. Even if I thought all dolies were lazy scum (and sure some are, but so are some people who have jobs!), I'd be bored of these threads. Though when I had work I never begrudged anyone their dole, even the lifers, because I know how crap of a life it is.

Does anyone else think maybe it's time we just stopped having these threads? It makes me not want to use boards any more at all when I see them all the time. Or if you still want to have them around so you can stick the cyber-boot into the Dutch Gold drinking bums, would you be okay with just having a separate forum all about dole bashing and leave it out of the other parts of the site?

My last job seekers benefit payment is tomorrow, but I am approved for job seekers allowance should I need it. Don't get me wrong, I want to work...and contribute to the exchequer again. I've a few interviews pending. Several people who left my industry ended up having heart attacks, and many have depression. I have no intention of being like that. I am probably lucky that I am not disposed to depression or feeling bad about things. For that I am eternally grateful. p.s. I don't feel like I am having the last laugh. Not like that for me at all. OP, you'll find most of the dole bashing threads spawn from an article about someone with 5 to 10 kids looking for more money because they can barely survive, and/or she's getting evicted, and/or it's none of the government's business that someone is living with her whilst she's getting single parent allowance, etc, etc.

Add the above to a thread such as AH, and you get madness. Bring back TCN, or Thunderdrome, I say, and you'd find just how mad some of the threads go when they get sent there to die... death by cat meme :pac:

Everybody accepts the need for social insurance against loss of employment.

Indeed, I argue that JSB is too low at 188 pw, it should be increased, and made pay-related.

Example: USA pays 50% of former wages for 6 months, extendable to 99 weeks during recessions.

Germany = 60-67% of former net pay for 12 months.

So I suggest 50% of former gross for 6 months, dropping to 40% of former gross for next six months.

What people don't tend to agree with is:

JSB rate = JSA rate
JSA has an indefinite duration

We pay you more if you are long-term unemployed, no other country does that.

Solution: increase duration and rates of JSB

Limit the duration of JSA.

Any rational, half way intelligent person knows straight away that criticising or being mean to someone because of the colour of their skin is ridiculous. And racist.

With unemployment though, there are so many more factors at play. So many more assumptions to be had. Unemployment is something that effects so many people for so many different reasons. For the rational, intelligent person to come along and then bash those people as a group, to belittle them, and to say that they are leaches on the state and so on and so forth as you read everyday on boards, is much more than just being mean or having a laugh. It's perverse. And an exertion of psychological power. It's the use of societal standards to exclude a section of society who don't belong in the cool gang.

What's more, a lot of people actively want people to be unemployed as well, as that is what affords business greater power over their workers, and what warps the whole economy in a way that allows e.g. wages to be pushed down to increase profits generally.

Unemployment - even high unemployment - is a good thing for certain sections of society. It's not all about money, it's about power over people/society too - when people have to fear losing their job and not finding another, a lot of power is wielded over them, generally they'll put up with a lot more shít, for more work and less pay.

Yes pretty much all economic conservatives - predominantly and most politically influentially represented by business/finance and other well-off/powerful sections of society, who stand to benefit power-wise from unemployment - always lobby against any possibility of government propping up employment in bad times, and actively lobby for cuts in employment in existing government programs, through funding cuts.

So they actively lobby against policies that would reduce unemployment, they actively lobby for policies that would hold down Aggregate Demand - helping to keep employment from recovering in the private economy - and they actively lobby for policies that would cut existing public employment.

Being among that group though, it will not be surprising that you act 'unconvinced' by this though.

EDIT: Oh, and lets not forget part of that group creating the crisis that caused the unemployment in the first place - and managing to offload such a huge debt burden onto government, that - at the time - it would cripple any existing government ability to alleviate unemployment.

Yes I've given you a ton of examples through actual policy lobbying plus other actions - actions speaking louder than words - showing it in action on the scale of entire industries...

I'm not going to give you a platform to act perpetually 'unconvinced' though, so feel free to provide a counterargument if you disagree.
