So I decided to create a dedicated thread for GIMX, which is a hack that allows you to simulate a Logitech G29 / G920 Steering Wheel on your PS4 or XBox One, so that you can use older unsupported Logitech wheels such as the Logitech G27, G25, Driving Force GT etc...

It also supports Force Feedback VIA USB ONLY, so behaves just like a G29 wheel.

For the PS4 you have two options:
Use the DIY USB Adapter
Use Bluetooth Adapter (Over Linux only, FFB is noy supported as it only emulates a Dualshock 4)

The Xbox One only works with the DIY USB Adapter.

So bluetooth seems to be out as Matlo said it does not support FFB, as it only emulates the Dualshock 4.

Looks like the USB adapter is the only way to go.

Thanks for this. I must give it a try. I'm using a DFGT so I will have to change to that config instead of the G27.
Have you noticed any performance issues compared to running on a laptop instead of a Pi?
I'm a total noob with raspberry pi's and linux so it will be a learning experience. Any recommendations where's a good place to pick up a pi cheap etc.?

Gimx for dummies seems to be too advanced for me. I really want to get this working for Dirt Rally on Tuesday

Laptop on Windows, I can't get the gimx launcher to run, it's runs for a split second and then stops

Haven't seen that problem before.....windows 7?
When you say it stops do you mean the whole program closes a second or 2 after you open it?
I had timeout issues running it with windows 7, side loaded Ubuntu and it works perfectly for me with that.
Does the gimx config editor do the same when you try open it?

Okay, so gimx is running but you getting an error. Have you got your ps4 controller connected to your laptop aswell? And did you press the PS button on the controller before you run gimx?

No I didn't have the controller connected to the laptop, I'm just after doing it, do I need to have the g25, the controller and the adapter all plugged into the laptop at the aame time as I only have 2 USB ports

Yep, all 3 (DIY dongle, wheel and ps4 controller) need to be connected to the laptop for it to work so you will need to get a cheap USB hub if your laptop only has 2 ports.

No worries, its a bit of messing to get sorted out but once it is set up and working its easy to use/start and works perfectly.
I would recommend an externally powered hub, something like this one.

People have had problems with some of the non external powered hubs like the one you linked.

and fixed an issue with the cursor moving and increased the resolution for VNC.

Not sure how I missed your question months ago!
I never managed to get GIMX to run on my PC, the GIMX Launcher wouldn't detect the G27 properly.

RS, Element14 (Farnell) and Pimironi are the main ones.
Any Pi with 4 USBs would do the trick nicely.

Im using the Pi 1 Model B which only has 2 USB ports so I'm forced to use a USB hub with it which is messier, i could sell you mine easily but I'd recommend you get a 4 port one, i have a ****ty paper craft case printed from an a4 page which I use as a case.

There was a 15% off code also, so I got the G29 and shifter for £135.

Right so after using the G29 properly there is definitely a few issues with the new software which is totally different to the old Logitech Profiler.

Since release none of the following options existed either for a default profile or game profile...

...up until a few days ago, when they released a beta version of the software which adds:

Combined Pedals
Degrees of Rotation
Centering Spring Enable / Disable
Centering Spring Strength

The 3 Force Feedback sliders are still non existent.

Also the Clutch shares its axis with the Wheel.

The wheel uses the full X axis, but the clutch only uses the positive half of the Y Axis.

This means you have to set a 50% deadzone in PC games just to be able to use the damn thing properly!

Also you can't launch games from the software even though it detects games and sets up profiles for them!

This a good 6 months after the wheel is launched and the software is still unfinished!

As if Logitech didn't lose enough respect already...

So I decided I will use my little Leonardo Microcontroller left over from the GIMX project with that DIY Hydraulic Handbrake,
and after a day of editing values in source code (I'm no coder!), I have a Potentiometer working as an analog axis in game controller properties!

The Resolution is 10-bit also which is nice! The Logitech G25/G27/G29 wheel only aloow the pedals have 8-bit resolution!

So I decided I'm going to hook the pedals up to the Leonardo as well as the handbrake, for increased resolution.

We're talking 1024 values instead of 255, thats a nice upgrade!

I have the pedals working but theres quite a deadzone and the axis are inverted, so I'm waiting on a reply from a user called RemjetX, who has fixed that issue already:

The handbrake looks the business. I saw some of the guys on GTPlanet modding their G27 shifters to use as a handbrake, but does'nt come close to what you are building. Might have to give it a try myself, would definitely come in handy with Dirt Rally :-)

So after successfully using the Gimx adaptor for a few months thanks to the excellent advise on here I now have an issue which has graduated from intermittent to very consistent, after about 10 mins of use the G25 will stop responding ie. freeze at whatever position it was at. The screen does not change or show any faults but the only way to get it working again is to either plug out the adaptor of sometimes restart the laptop.
Any idea's? The laptop is running windows 10, I have heard this can cause issues, would ubuntu solve this issue?

I used a teensy and UART from aliexpress, worked fine. Long delivery time though. And the teensy I got I had to solder the pins on.

This is the first time have seen the TAIO GIMX board. Looks like a nice solution instead of the 2 separate boards I used.
I was using it to connect a DFGT to the PS4. Worked perfectly using a laptop with Ubuntu loaded onto it. Also used a raspberry pi B+ but found the ffb 'locks' for a second sometimes, maybe a pi 3 might solve that. Or I was just unlucky.
In the end I bought a TM T150 on sale. Having to connect up and start the GIMX became a pain. But it does work great in fairness.
