Yeah, it sounds like a panacea but it could lead to escalating behaviours by giving them a 'taste' of what they're attracted to. I just can't see it leading to healthy decisions or suppression of unhealthy desires.

And it could work for one and set another on the road to escalation. You just can't tell.

I suppose it depends on if they are classed as dolls or sex toys. I doubt they would get the go ahead here but Japan has its own morality around acceptable sexual behaviour.

I don't know, I feel this might lead to them escalating their behaviour against actual children. I'm sure many paedophiles go on to abuse children themselves after watching images of abuse online so why is this different? The dolls themselves are disturbingly sexualised versions of children and just make me feel very uneasy.

I think at €14k a pop, the inventor of these plastic dolls couldn't give two fcuks about the fight against sexual abuse of real children.

At worst they could use to the dolls to practice on before trying it "for real" :mad:

It doesn't always mean that if you can act it out that you'll be satisfied and won't want to do it for real.

So, trials then. Can't really test for non-offenders since those guys are pretty unlikely to announce themselves, but we release convicted offenders of various grades all the time. We have a list of them. We know the rates of reoffending for various different offences. Someone could do a trial to test if this "intervention" reduces that rate. Of course there's an ethically tricky part- it could indeed increase the rate. But how else would we ever know?

It would be a lot easier to dismiss or accept this idea if we actually had some information other than some possibly-slimy salescreature's word.

You are right. It wouldn't stop paedophilic impulses but it possibly may contain them. The doll becomes the focus for their pleasure rather than a child. Paedophilia, while abhorrent to right minded people, is very complex. Some despise themselves for how they feel and will try anything to overcome their urges. Other's have no such qualms and will act out. It can't be cured only managed. There is an argument for it to be viewed as another type of sexuality.

Personally I believe any person who sexually abuses a child regardless of the psychology behind it are vile and pathetic creatures.
