The fact the OP is only 6km from work, its nearly pointless to get a car to drive to work IMO due to traffic, insurance and tax costs. If theyre fit and able it makes much more sense, especially in the city, to cycle to work. Most places do a cycle to work scheme too so there could be a bit of money saved if they wanted to go down that route.
