Have my licence years, but my only period of ownership was one year of classic car ownership in the Netherlands a few years ago. Previously insured on friend's policy, but that's also a long time ago. So no useful insurance history in Ireland. Guess this is why I'm being crucified. I don't own the Fiat yet, just thought it be a sensible place to start insurance-wise.

Any suggestions?

I'm lucky by the looks of the quotes above. Zurich quoted me the same as last year, €550, fully comp. Five years ncb, 2013 reg and no penalty points. Had a quick look at 123, Chill, Liberty and they are all more expensive.

If every average risk had been paying €500 a year for the last few years we wouldn't be in the mess we are in.

Your renewal premium is about right to be honest.

People have been paying way under the odds for a few years so the balance is being redressed.

Well, 1 windscreen, lost key or breakdown call out would eat in to that, which doesn't leave much to chip in to the pot that needs to cover injury claims

I've had 4 breakdown call outs in the last 10 months,3 of those were for a Renault (say no more) the most recent one was recovery from another county and would have cost 200 were I to pay for it,so I see your point

You won't get insured on a car that old I'd say. Might have to sell it and move up a few years. You may even save money doing this.

Get your full license on your driving instructors insurance, don't get your own on a provisional.

You should then be able to get quotes under €1500. I know insurance was cheaper last year, but I got insured on a 2006 1.6 Focus, no NCD and just passed the test for €1200 and could have got it for €900 TPFT. This year TPFT was under €1000.

@sporina: I went with FBD last year but 25plus (xtra) ran them close. I think I've said before I'm looking for a deal this year on house and car and if FBD don't play ball I'll be off to 25plus.

Edit: Just checked back and 123.ie wanted €968.20 for comp. €546 with FBD.

got it for 460 through One direct / post insurance with AIG again with all extras, wife added too.

AIG direct was 516; AIG in general seems to be the lowest for me.

FBD gave me a qoute of 610 was delighted went to get it then on the website and bam " we cant offer you a qoute at this time" gas altogether!

Kinda gels with my theory that the insurance companies can't get any traction with the government re the compo culture and have basically said "right, we're sticking it to you till you blink".
The last time they did that we got the compo board and ads about Joe's brass neck. Let's see what will happen now, considering the legal profession will never in a million years concede an inch, because they got a great racket going. It's at the expense of the entire country, but who cares when you're raking it in.

Driving since I was 17 as a fully comp. On a full Irish licence. Never had an accident or claim until April 2015 where I crashed my car in a single car accident, moumted a bend and upturned.

Basically my premium went from just under €600 per year to just shy of €2000 with Alliance.

Is this normal that I get absolutely screwed to the hilt. I'm now 29 years of age.
