A lot of guys have often derided the Irish motorist for buying cars with pissy little engines because they're trying to save on "de tax & insurance" but how can anyone blame the motorist given examples like the above? That's two grand a year just to tax & insure a bog standard car with 115bhp.

My insurance is up on Jan 17th and AIG have this morning been sent a renewal quote which is just shy of being €1200 more than it was last year (€576 --> €1772). Have had no claims whatsoever. Not even windscreen. Zilch.

Guess I'm one of those with a car over ten years that's getting it in the neck of late.

Really annoyed as last year I was told that the 455€ included an extra 90€ fee for driving with a EU licence that I have now converted into a Full Irish licence and was hoping to get a nice quote <400€ this year and instead I got a big increase. Looking at some of the quotes in previous posts though I feel it could have been even worse.

Few people have mentioned here that 10YO cars are being hit. My XTrail has just crossed the 10th birthday, could this be adding to my premium ??

Really annoyed that at 43 with a clean history that I was hit with an 80% increase and the best I'm getting is 50% higher than last year.

Hard to believe this isn't price gouging.

I'm getting hit on 2 counts. It seems (as I might have said already) that 30 years accident-free counts for nowt. Louth gets hit harder and my car will be 13 years old come next quote time. If it was done on miles on the clock I have 48k on the clock now so maybe about 55k miles on it next May.

Boi €453 (including €107 discount for having an account)

They don't advertise enough! Never would have thought of them. Respect to them for being decent about older cars (although I'm sure as ever they must have done their sums on it)

Yeah on the BoI website. They give a discount for 1,2,3+ years as an account holder.

They weren't the cheapest for me though going back a few months.

Rang Aviva today and renewed for €411. I didn't even have to ask for a further discount. The guy when through the policy and gave me a best price of €411. Thought I might have gotten €20 -€30 off. I wasn't expecting nearly €50.

Got a great quote from BOI 405 fully comp for a 37 year old female (38 year old male named driver) on a 2006 Toyota Avensis 2 liter diesel. Was with Aviva they wanted 506 Euro, was 305 Euro last year!!!
