Just wondering if anyone is doing this quiz in the Holly Bough and fancies sharing their clues, difficulties etc.?

I have had my copy 2 weeks now, and only 14 of the 60 are answered.

Wondering is it just me finding it hard this year?

43. 1 M in M by J S I can't think of any Irish songwriter with initials J S (Irish writers yes)
47. 3 B O, C tg4 A programme (Clár) on TG4 perhaps. There is a show called 3B Outdoors on Fox TV

Any hints for these 4 and No. 9 would be great please and I'm done.

Right, after much struggling I'm calling in some help!

Many thanks to the people above who have helped me with a few of them.

I'm stuck on:
9, 16, 27, 36, 40, 42, 47.

Also, number 48. I know what the clue is about, but I cannot think what the 'R' stands for.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm pretty sure the only famous Irish songwriter that goes by JS is John Spillane, but I have scoured song lists for ages and connot find any song matching 1 M in M.

16: A rapper. Think of a person who is down and out
27: When something happens, something else often happens because of it
36: If you studied Irish for Leaving Certificate you heard of this guy, in the poetry section often compared with Mairtin O Direáin and their names rhyme. The year he was born and the SW Cork town where he was born near the Kerry border. No excuse for an Irish person not getting this one.
42: A best selling children's book by Sue Townsend

Any clues for 9, 40, 43 and 47 would be appreciated.

I thought of that but wrote it off as a song by another artist. Never figured on 2 different songs with the same name. Ned I'm not sure about the geometric angle (pardon the pun). In 2 dimensional figures you'd normally use the word side rather than edge and there's a lack of consistency 9. says "of the" and 40. says "in the" Edges would normally refer to 3-dimensional figures. Possible answers but a bit vague.

Please tell me you're joking. Stuck on 1. What currency do you use? I gave clue early on for 14. Detectives solve crimes by doing this. Mathematicians get 4 when they do it.

I'm now stuck on 9 and 40
