Mayhem down in Dolphin House apparently..

Female judge assaulted at family law courts in Dublin

A Female District Court judge has been assaulted during a court sitting in Dublin's Temple Bar.

The incident happened during a case before the family law courts at around lunchtime.

The judge was taken to hospital as a result of the incident but has since been discharged, and her injuries are not believed to be serious.

The Courts Service says security systems were put in place, and gardaí were also present in the court.

One person has been arrested and brought to Pearse Street garda station.

How the hell would something like that occur. Is there security for judges in that court?

Dolphin House is a feckin awful place. I'd never heard of the place, or known of it's existence, until recently. And I wish I'd never had to get to know it. But I've an almost two-year-old, and am no longer with his dad. And it's not an amicable arrangment.

Dolphin House ... it's the saddest grimmest environment. I don't think any family member ever leaves the place happy with the outcome.

I don't envy the judges jobs in these cases. I hope the judge in question recovers well and soon.

Hmmmm.
I'd rather wait and see why the person attacked the judge to pass a comment.

While they might be some scumbag they might just be a regular person who lost it when told their kids were to be taken or away or something. It is a family court. Best to get the facts in.

I don't think anyone assumed it was anything other than a very difficult situation, a father fighting for access, a wife looking to bar her husband, or parents seeking a protection order, a child being taken into care...there are very few applications in family law courts that don't involve a tragedy.

No. everyone assumed it was a father seeking access/custody of minors and that the attacker was a thug

I don't think anything hinges on the fact that the alleged perp was the son of the applicants, as opposed to the spouse or indeed a parent in say a maintenance matter.

The disability might be relevant if he suffered from diminished responsibility.

No, our laws just assume that the child is better off with the mother. I know it's nothing to do with child custody in this case but it is only a matter of time before something like this happens in court over a divorce or custody case. It's an extremely unfair and frustrating experience for men in the Family Court.

I think access should be such that the best interests of the child or children are promoted.

Any interference with arrangements should be attract a sanctionnot from the courts, not their indulgence.

Parenting should definitely be shared.

He'd be what we used to describe as "mentally handicapped "
The parents have probably struggled with him at home for years and now they're getting frail and he's too much to physically handle

Not just our laws.

In many countries the law favours women in cases involving children. Which is understandable in the cases of young children, it becomes less relevant as they grow. In many countries this is underpinned by matters such as maternity leave, there is no presumption that men and women are the exact same.

And for women....... it goes both ways. I'm sitting at home now. Had a birthday night out planned with friends, a very rare night out. My ex has just cancelled his access again. He regularly cancels it, whenever it suits him. I can do nothing about it. The law is on his side as I would be in breach of a court order if I refused access - yet he cancels time & time again with no repercusions. This is the same 'daddy' that tells everyone he never gets to see his child. LOL there is definitely 2 sides to every story.

The kind of family group that gets absolutely no help or respite from the state until the parents have died and the "mentally handicapped adult" becomes a ward of the state.

i hear similar horror stories from both sexes at work about their respective partners. Awful, there's no winners. Reason seems to go out the window.
Wouldn't wish it on anyone some of what goes on.

Keep a diary, make a note of what happened, or make notes on a calendar...will be very useful if he seeks to increase access in the future and you have details of all the times he failed to turn up.

My child has a very severe disability but she marks on her little calender when her daddy is due to take her. Her little heart is broke today. It is very difficult trying to explain to her that he won't be collecting her.

The people who say the family courts are pro mother have probably spent very little time in one. You see if I went back to court No Judge can force him to be a proper father. He will however put on a great daddy display in front of his family & friends. The reality is far different. If you were a friend of his he would probably be lamenting about how he never gets to see his child.

The real losers are the children

Having a casual pop at unmarried fathers is one of the last remaining acceptable forms of prejudice in modern society... hopefully not forever...

This is true
These people are the real heroes, struggling in silence for years, often shunned by society because people don't know how to deal or react to a child in a mans body
I've heard some terrible stories
On the other hand if they let him be taken into "care" they have the shadow of Aras Attracta hanging over them and often the disapproval of family and neighbors
It's a tough life
