The last episode I watched was the one all about Elon Musk. Terrible. They managed to condense everything that has been going wrong with the show into a single episode: ridiculous (in a bad way) story, lame, rehashed jokes, and completely pointless, ass-kiss celebrity cameos.

It was better when the "celebrities" just provided the voices, rather than played themselves.

The worst recent one I saw was the Ricky Gervais one. It was absolutely awful in every way.

The Lena Dunham one is getting a lot of stick too. It was on the other day but I couldn't bring myself to watch it.

If I saw an episode on the TV and there was nothing else on, I would probably watch it.

I do enjoy the Christmas themed episodes though and watch those each year.

Thing that puzzles me about modern day Simpsons is that you'd think all the current writers would have grown up as big fans of the show. It would follow that they'd go for the job thinking, or hoping, to make a difference in quality and restore it to its former glory. Obviously that hasn't happened, so I think there's more at play than lazy writing or over reliance on pop-culture references. I do still watch the odd new episode and agree that it's still occasionally quite funny, but not funnier than other contemporary animated sitcoms.

When the Simpsons came out, it was pretty much the only animated prime time program on American airwaves. Maybe if a similar level of competition existed as it does today, it wouldn't have stood out then either.

It didn't stand out because it was a good animated show, it stood out because it was the funniest, cleverest program on tv full stop.

The reason that there is 'competition' now is down to how good it used to be.

The older episodes had a really human quality to them. Things that happened were possibilities in terms of reality. The charm has been completely sucked dry by annoying regular characters like this, it's been turned in a commercial sack of poop.

And it's far and above nearly all the ones that have come since, the closest I reckon is probably Futurama funny enough, another Matt Groening one and it's no coincidence the Simpsons took a sharp dive when he changed his focus to that.

Though Rick and Morty is also seriously top class stuff. Again, massively obvious how much of an influence the Simpsons was on it though.

I think when they killed off Marge it was making some attempt to shake things up... However as the season had gone on, I think it was a mistake. Moe as a transexual Simpson was funny for about 5 minutes I guess...

I read that Fat Tony was killed off a little bit back, but are the two above true? Just a weird and desperate turn if so!

Yeah... Bart was replaced by Ralph Wiggum when his dad (Chief Wiggum) was killed off in a police shootout. Marge's death was more a political statement, esp in the inclusion of the French national anthem at the funeral.

Trying to have Homer date Principle Skinner was interesting I guess...

I love it but find the new episodes full of ramdom sh1t abit like family guy ..I don't think it's going anywhere soon lol when you see sh1tty programs like friends still being played day in day out even tho they havnt made new episodes since 2004 it goes to show you how something so rubbish clings on for yrs

I have to say, I've become a fan of Family Guy. I happen to love all the cutaways, they're my favourite part! You can't beat a good Stewie / Brian time travel adventure!

+1, its nowhere near as good as it was, but it was amazing, only program I remember really looking forward to and making sure not to miss.
