Because the issue here isn't about how a 32 year old had sex with a minor, got her pregnant and denied it until it was genetically proven while in the meantime the girl was cast out from her family and forced to have her baby alone under HSE care and now won't be going to third level education for the foreseeable future or most likely, not at all, putting her at risk of poverty....
no, the issue here is that in a hypothetical situation where the roles were reversed an already stupidly lenient sentence might (but probably not) be even more lenient. That's exactly what we need to focus on :rolleyes:

At the re-trial yesterday, the jury deliberated for 40 minutes before returning a unanimous guilty verdict.

In October of last year, Dr Mulcahy was found not guilty of sexually assaulting a separate, 13-year old patient 25 year ago.

The poor girl. It said in the article that the next morning he told her that what they did wasn't sex. Sounds like he took advantage of a naive young girl.

Even after being caught out by the DNA test he still claims the girl instigated it. He only regrets it because now he has to go to prison. No care for the impact on his victims life which by the sounds of it has been severely affected. 3 years is no time at all and no doubt he will be released earlier.

I doubt the family of the young girl concerned in this case disowned her the way the victim of the refugee rapist did. Most civilized people on this Island wouldn't disown a family member who was sexually assaulted .... certain culture coming into this country would.

And its not part of our collective history that I'd say many are particularly proud of.

I don't personally understand how a family could disown one of their own after what she had been through, forcing her into care. They're almost as bad as her rapist.

Mulcahy was involved in a different case, different scumbag rapist. At least Mulcahy's victims had the support of the family.
