According to the twitter above, the six crew members that were killed in that hotel terrorist attack in Mali on Friday were regularly in Shannon.

Just hope our own security forces are trained / equipped enough to deal with this menace.

Quite a number of Volga-Dnepr aircraft use Shannon on regular Basis.

It's very sad, and must be a huge shock to the people working in Shannon with Volga-Dnepr for years.

I don't think there's any evidence to suggest that these people were specifically targeted in any way related to their employer. The victims in Mali were a random collection of nationalities and business-people who were unfortunate enough to be staying in that hotel on that night.

Atlantic Aviation Group ends tough year back in profit (Irish Examiners)

Aircraft-maintenance firm, the Atlantic Aviation Group, has booked gains of €4.6m in write-downs on monies owed to creditors and on bank loans, as part of the rescue of the business.

The Shannon-based group — formerly Transaero Engineering — exited examinership earlier this year and new accounts show that it recorded pre-tax profits of €4m in the 16 months to the end of April this year.

The accounts, filed by Atlantic Aviation Group Ltd, show that the group booked a €3.2m gain from a reduction in the amount owed to creditors, and €1.4m from the reduction in the amount owed in bank loans.

Numbers employed at the firm have reduced from 272 to 235. The directors of the slimmed-down aircraft-maintenance operation state that the “business is debt-free, profitable and the outlook is positive”.

Wow Cork will be well ahead of SNN next year. What a comeback they making.

Call me a cynic but the latest Cork performance is the daa flexing its muscle and reminding SNN it can make life difficult for them

Corks growth seems very unusual. I assume no one will even raise the question of price though?

Always said myself the daa can make life difficult whenever they like. Interesting times ahead....

It certainly feels like a daa led initiative as I can't help but feel local marketing in cork wouldn't have the clout to get even half of those services, the Norwegian ones stand out in particular...

Why so? Haven't that region been crying out for American services for years? Probably won't have a high level of connecting passengers but surely it'll be sustainable/profitable based on point to point travellers no?

afaik there won't be connections offered

The CSO Statistics for August are out.

Boston did well but Chicago was disappointing.

August in general was not a good month for Shannon this year.

About time the IASC actually achieved something. Great news

GainJet Ireland will base three aircraft at the mid-west airport including a medevac/air ambulance and expects to begin operations early next year.

Given the number of medical diversions to Shannon, it would seem to be a logical step to base a medevac/air ambulance there.

The two other business jets that would serve the corporate sector would benefit greatly if Shannon could get the opening hours extended at the US preclearance facility for private aircraft.

DHL takes new space at Westpark in Shannon (Independent)

DHL/ EKAS (Deutsche Post international BV) has agreed what is being described as a "substantial" expansion of its business base at Westpark Shannon.

Since 2012, DHL EKAS jointly leased offices with its sister company DHL Global Forwarding, in Building 4,000, Westpark, but due to significant growth it required dedicated space to accommodate expansion.

The new office space is home to the DHL/EKAS European Key Account Support team. Some 65 agents moved into the new offices last week. Their role is to provide excellent customer service to DHL's elite customers.

"They represent 17 nationalities and between them speak 18 languages, giving the team the ability to service the whole of Europe from its base in Westpark, Shannon," said O'Mara.

Would love to see DHL setting up a logistics centre at the airport.

FR1024 (BUD-DUB)diverted to Shannon, didn't make an approach.
FR3105 (AMS-DUB) diverted to Shannon, after 1 go around.
FR117 (LGW-DUB)diverted to Shannon, after 1 go around.
EI3843 (BRS-ORK) diverted to Shannon after 2 go arounds.
EI3805 (EDI-ORK) diverted to Shannon after 1 go around.
EI529 (CDG-DUB) diverted to Shannon after 1 go around.

So far for the recent weather event Shannon has received 7 diversions and the weather had no effects on the operations at the airport.

Looks like it. EI1135 (An A320) just about operated SNN-DUB this morning bringing PAX from the Cancelled EI135, presumably to put them on DUB flights.

More likely this is the British Airways effect creeping in. BA cancel flights regularly if the LF isn't high enough.
