UPC modem/router Technicolor TC7200

Just upgraded broadband and got sent new modem/router to replace my epc2203 modem.
Was expecting an epc3925 but got a Technicolor TC7200.U
Looks like a new Thompson?
Anyone got one, how good are they?
Cannot find any option to use bridging mode so will have to setup as normal modem/router and change my main router to be a switch/ap unless I can recable.

Correct. The option is still in the UI but it does the same double reboot back into router mode.

Might as well ask since it's been something I've been curious on.

Before the recent change and reversal I had my TC7200 bridged for months and months. During this time my second ASUS router had been rebooted but the UPC one had never been rebooted since the bridging.

Would the bridging revert if I lets say, lost power in the house?

What I meant was, in general. With "true bridge" mode enabled. Does turning the UPC router/modem and and off tend to mess settibgs/revert changes made?

Once I setup bridge mode before. I was always afraid to turn on/off the upc router during troubleshooting incase it reverted everything and I'd have to start again.

Ah no. You can safely reboot the device, everything stays as it was. You'd only lose the bridge if you do a full reset via the reset button.

I used the Windows port of snmpset to do it. Remove the RF cable before running. The command is:

snmpset -v:2c -c:public -r:192.168.0.1 -o:1.3.6.1.4.1.4413.2.2.2.1.7.1.1.0 -tp:int -val:1

Here ya go mate. I had this posted elsewhere.

Pre-instructions:
1. Make sure Wi-Free is disabled in your UPC account! This can take up to 72 hours to take effect once disabled.
2. Make sure you are on an IPV4 address and not an IPV6 address. You will need to directly contact UPC to change this.

Instructions:
1.Downloaded the SNMP Program from here http://www.snmpsoft.co...eetools/snmpset.html
2.Placed program on my desktop
3.Right click on program, click properties, compatibility tab, run as administrator
4.Pulled out RF cable on TC7200
5.Held reset button on the TC7200 for 30 seconds using a pin
6.Logged into the TC7200, turned off firewall (not sure if needed)
7.Turned off firewall on my windows machine
8.Connected the Laptop to the TC7200 with a direct connection
9.Clicked windows button bottom left, typed "cmd" into search bar and hit enter. CMD window appears.
10.Dragged the SNMP program onto the CMD window. It should create a line with something like "C:/Program File/User/etcetc/SNMP.exe". Don't press enter yet
11.Copied this line (right click, copy). NOTE: My router address was 192.168.100.1 and not 192.168.0.1 so change in the line of code if needed.
-v:2c -c:public -r:192.168.0.1 -o:1.3.6.1.4.1.4413.2.2.2.1.7.1.1.0 -tp:int -val:1
12.Back on the CMD window, after the SNMP.exe part press spacebar, right click and paste (ctrl + v to paste will not work in CMD window).
13.This should run the program (if not, hit enter), wait a moment, a security window will pop up, hit yes.
14. Plug the RF cable back into the UPC router.
15. Double check that the UPC router IP has changed (ipconfig /all). There may be a delay in this. Once it has changed, log into the router and check to make sure there is fewer options available than before.
16. Unplug your laptop/desktop from your UPC router and directly plug it into your new router.
17. Plug the UPC router into your new router.
18.It should work after that! True bridge mode enabled.

OK, I just did a full 30 second reset and went back to router mode. Logged in, set language and entered the hidden page. No other changes made. Rebooted and disabled Wi-Fi after the bridge.

Will post back if I lose WAN connection.

Right, previous advice still stands. Do not use the hidden switch-mode page. That didn't last long!

From my observation, it's not a true bridge mode. The router component is still active. On the Basic page, I could see that the modem was still obtaining the IP I had for the last week while in router mode. My guess is that the WAN connection drops when the DHCP lease on the router's IP expires.

Also, if you do a traceroute, there's an extra hop in the connection because your router is still feeding through the TC7200 router, despite being bridged:

As you can see, 192.168.0.1 is still active. It looks more like a WAN passthrough than a bridge. The pings are all over the place too, I wonder if this is related? Again, SNMP only!

what version s/w is on your technicolour boxes that is allowing you to set the bridge mode ?
mine is on STD6.02.11 but I CANNOT get the bridge mode to work,
I get an error message everytime that says......%failed to set value to snmp variable,timeout

head now seriously done in !!!

Do you have the RF cable disconnected? To be honest I've heard no successful reports of a bridge on 06.02.11. Still on 06.01.27 here.

The firmware version didn't change when they disabled bridge mode. It was a change in the DOCSIS config file. A small number of users seem to have 06.02.11 but I've never seen it myself and don't know why. But if it can't be bridged, that's very bad news if they ever do push this version out to everyone.

Same timeout error message here: have a TC2700 with STD6.02.11 with either RF cable connected or not.
