I'm hoping to get how early Friday and give the car a good going over. I haven't cleaned it since May myself cost it cleaned in a place twice since then. Infairness silver is a reasonably good colour for handling dirt. I'm hoping to give it a good polish and ideally remove some of the light scuffs.

So two questions is Autoglym paint renovator any good for removing light scratches seems to be a step above SRP from what I can gather.

Also anyone know of a good spray on alloy wheel cleaner as they are fairly dirty. Something I can get in halfords as I'm not going to get to order anything at this stage it wouldn't arrive on time. I think the main brands halfords stock are Autoglym and meguiars.

Wonder Wheels Hot Wheels is what id get if I was in halfords. They have meguiars stuff there but I didn't think it was any good,

I had the SE model which was very well equipped and seemed well made. Maybe the Irish ones are less so

Mine was the 2.0T ecoboost with 240 odd bhp. Good engine but definitely lacking in any kind of character though, I guess that's expected.

Meguiars have a wheel cleaner called Hot Wheels.

I am going to catch the asshole who keeps pushing my mirror in at work, they have already broken the motor in it. I am going to check the car at lunch and see who is parked beside me and if the mirror is pushed in or not.

M50 northbound was brutal this morning. Ended up coming off it on the N4 and driving through town.

Silly people who don't concentrate, check their mirrors and so on causing crashes

Got knocked off my bicycle again this morning when a driver pulled out without looking. A few minutes before that I almost got sandwiched between a parked car and a car which just had to race hard to join the traffic 10 feet ahead.

The annoying thing is this all happens even when I drive to work.

It was brutal southbound as well. Took me 55 minutes to get from Ballymun exit to Red Cow.

Anyone who has to contend with this on a daily basis has my utmost sympathy.

If I have to go to Dublin for work (which is rarely) I'll take the train if at all possible.

Last week I had to drive, and while I was able to avoid the morning crawl, I couldn't avoid the evening hell which meant that the 112 miles which I covered in 1 hr 50 mins earlier in the day became 2 hrs 40 mins for the return.

Malahide -> M50 -> N7 -> M7 - it wasn't until after the M9 turn-off that it eased off.

Three car crash on the M50 but they were all in on the hard shoulder.

Having said all that, I got the impression that it could have been worse.

Guys sorry to post this here but didn't want to start a new thread. I think I'm going get this car today. It's In d.15 and the mecanhic I had won't go over that far and the seller won't drive it over to me. So I've no mecanhic atm. Really just looking for advice, I know you can't tell much from pictures but does it look ok from what you can see? The seller has it two years and said the last service was before the nct. Getting it for €2100. I'm hoping to get a couple of trouble free years from it.

Looks fairly honest and it's a nice spec. You're aware that's a 1.2 not a 1.0 model so the tax in nearly double? It's missing it's roof aerial so that's 50 quid off right there.

No I'm not at all, I'm going to try and get someone to come out with me. Yeah I don't really mind about the tax. Is it just the radio that won't work without the aerial? Also see the way the head lights are really hazy would a good clean with maybe cif or something else get them back to clear. . They would really bug me!!

The radio probably still works given you're in the city but the reception mightn't be great. That problem with the headlights is very common on those Micras. Aparantly a good agressive scrub with toothpaste does wonders, you can but cheap DIY kits in halfords to do them up yourself too.

Fortunately those micras are basic enough so if it drives good it probably is good.

Make sure the boot opens, there was a problem with them where the boot solenoid breaks making opening the boot impossible from the outside.

Also feel how the key turns to start it, it should be a nice easy to turn process like you would be used to. If you have to force the key around very hard to start it then it has a faulty ignition switch, this was also a popular problem with these cars. They are quick and cheap to replace, luckily.

Have a listen to the engine too, should sound nice and quiet, like a sewing machine when warm... any unusual rattles or grinds at any point and i'd leave it there.

They were somewhat known for timing chain trouble so any unusual grinding or funny noises upon starting it up would be a big no no, a definite reason not to buy. Similarly make sure that the check engine light illuminates and then goes out after start up. If it doesn't light up at all, walk away.

Always worth hearing a car start from cold too, could be worth asking the seller to leave it sit and cool down before you get there (obviously this isnt always possible if they are coming home from work etc). Id be reluctant to buy a car which is running when I arrive to look at it, Ive seen this a few times, even with dealers!

The hazy headlights are an easy fix, you can buy a bottle of special polish and with some elbow grease get the clear again. Or as TFB mentioned even toothpaste will do the trick! Ive done this before
