I had to wait around for an hour in Enniscorthy today for an appointment so decided to sit down by the river opposite the Bus Stop. I was so sad to see the state of the place. The rubbish strewn around, the seats too dirty to sit on. Such a shame with it being such a pleasant spot to sit and have a sambo at lunchtime. Does the council not send cleaners down there?

The Premier if allowed will be screened in the Riverside park Hotel Enniscorthy on October 28th. The movie will be released in the USA on November 6th to be in with a shout for next years Oscars.....thats what I've heard...... However, Enniscorthy council need approval from the distribution company.

I saw the trailer too a few days back, not much of the town to be seen in the one I saw but what there was looked good. Looking forward to watching the film, as much to see who I can recognize as anything else!

I can't see the Premier been moved from outside Dublin but a screening could happen

Yeh, not saying the film is very good but I thought the trailer showed Enniscorthy in a nice light FWIW.

Be great at least for the premiere to be in Wexford (if not Enniscorthy)

It'll be knocked eventually. I believe they will be using the junior and senior school at the moment and the old Gael Scoil. Then when the new building is done they are moving into those and knocking the old buildings and rebuilding again.

On my way back from school this morning I passed a squad car parked outside the derelict Court House - I smiled to myself - O'Brien's. Sure enough there they were enjoying their coffee. When did you last see a garda on the beat in town? Apart from St.Patrick's Day the only time recently was when the market was up at the Market Square....:rolleyes:

Dunnes Stores have finally given up on the sale of organic fruit and vegetables. According to the staff members I spoke to 'Dunnes can't buy organic produce in small enough quantities to justify stocking it' - ah well, the walk to Lidl is good for me and another reason to avoid Dunnes whenever possible. My Club card vouchers came to a massive €2 last time out.

Another thing struck me this morning - the army/garda cash escorts are a thing of the past! Is this because of the security situation or another cost-cutting effort?

I have to agree with you there, seeing the amount of Shops around town and how long they've had no owner. It's a bit depressing if you ask me.

One of life's greatest mysteries is probably how the To Let / For Sale signs EVERYWHERE aren't faded out by the sun in the slightest. Weird!

Local council patched up the Oulart road between Corbally bridge and Coolgarrow, one of them quick n rough jobs that leaves a gazillion stone chippings on the surface for about 3 weeks.

Had Autoglass out with me last Thursday doing a window screen replacement... no joke :-(

Noticed during the last week or so that work is, at last, starting on the Athenaeum.

In other news, two shops in Slaney Street have been heavily refurbished but will probably remain empty when completed. Sue Ryder's shop next to the Credit Union appears to have finished-up permanently.

Bypass to start earlier than expected according to local papers.

Work on the Enniscorthy and New Ross bypasses is due to begin in November.

Director of Services with Wexford County Council's Roads Department, Eamonn Hore told this newspaper that the contracts will be signed in the first or second week of October and work will begin shortly afterwards.

Work on the Atheneum continuing apace,one thing-why did they knock a big hole in the front of it to the right of the doors? Maybe for wheelchair access but it strikes me as odd that they can't put wheelchair access in the BOI because it's listed,surely a building with more history would be considered equally important as the BOI building?

I thought the same myself but with Council involved anything is possible. The building will probably end up like the Courthouse.

God only knows. It's a pity there wasn't enough money to buy-out the 'kip' next door to the Athenaeum and the fire exit could have gone in there.
