I think based on time my one is due late December so I'll have around 15k km on it at this stage I'm thinking of letting it into the main dealer for this one granted it will cost more probably 200-300 euro. I think after that I might do it myself. It will be very weird bringing it too a dealer as I've always service my cars myself from my first car onwards. Renault seem to be substantially more than vw group for servicing though.

Priced backing plates and reflectors. They're both 20 squid each. 80 smackers just for mostly cosmetic parts to pass the NCT. Grrrr!
Funny result though, brand new, OEM Ford backing plates are about €20 each with tax.
Scrappie had some, i.e. old slightly rusty ones he had to take off a car and he wants €30 each. I get it, they are a pain to take off, BUT he won't just have backing plates, he will have a caliper, disc, hub and whatever else from the suspension while he's in there.
So with all sympathy to scrappie trying to make a living, I have to go with the cheaper, brand new, OEM option. Call me picky or insane, but it just has to be the option of the day here.

I will not give out about that scrappie, they have always been helpful, reasonable and well stocked in the past. Just this time we couldn't come to an agreement.

Hence why I said assuming your not doing a huge commute. Obviously if your driving 1500km a week for work or something your going to paying more than 60 euro. What I meant is tipping around going in and out to work and doing a bit of driving at the weekend you shouldn't be spending more then 60 quid a week on fuel every week add up fairly quickly. I certainly wasn't taking anything to heart. And the argument on depreciation is fairly valid but I mean for most newish cars your looking at about 1500 quid a year depreciation but obviously that would be cars a few years old and not very high value.

Anyway long story short motoring is expensive no matter what way you work it.

Don't think so. Seems they do actually charge by the week for the temp adjustments.
I changed permanently from a 2002 1.8 156 to a 2003 1.8tdci focus and it cost me zero. Have paid 70 just to change address before with other brokers. Only 2 months left on the policy and a move of about 500m up the road!

Just spoke to 123 over the phone as I needed to switch the policy to another car I do own and she said "we don't normally allow temporary change to a car registered in your name"

They allowed me to have it insured for 3 days only due to my circumstances.

You can't win with them, can you?
