Milk Price- Please read Mod note in post #1

Recently we saw three posters close their accounts over disagreements in the dairy threads. While there is a lot of frustration and discontent with current milk prices and the processing industry, the recent tendency for dairy threads to become tit-for-tat arguments isn’t tolerable for those not involved.

All farming sectors go through difficult periods and during such times there may need to be changes in how threads are moderated.

Dairy threads are going to be more closely monitored and subject to stricter moderation for a while.

To that end we won’t tolerate baiting of posters, constantly reviving old arguments, posters with agendas or crusading for a cause.

Whether it’s discussion of the business or politics of the dairy or other sectors, we expect civility and tolerance toward each other and other opinions as diversity of opinion is needed as a source of different ways of looking at a situation.

Also please be aware that what you may post as light-hearted banter can be read totally differently by someone adversely affected by the subject matter and evoke a reaction you hadn’t intended.

The ‘Off-Season’ forum, and its anonymous posting, is available for anyone to chat about their situation.

I was wondering would it be a help if we posted our milk prices. I would hope that if someone is low that help could be given, on the other hand if high perhaps your tips could help us all.

I would suggest posting your processors base inc Vat for comparison
Post your Nett price for others to help or be helped
I think that solids should be included.
I suggest any seasonal/liquid contract price be excluded or seperated.

I feel that we as farmers do a lot of bitching about processor prices and rightly so IMO. I also feel that we should not worry about it as we can do nothing about base price but we certainly do something about it at farm level.

What do you all think?

I can't see arra lasting on their own much longer than a few years tbh .I think 16/17 will tell a lot

Agree with that ,as for the talks with tipp ,rember
That and also understand why they wanted nothing to do with us .we were an under performing poor price coop among other things .things have improved but nowhere near enough ..rumours of something happening with aurivo for last while

november 2017 will be the last milk collection here in my name, (if the good man ^ above spares me till then)

junior is undecided whether he will continue dairying or not,

as much as we have had our differences in the past I wouldn't like to see a lorry other than arra driving in.

Have to admit it'd be hard to see another truck comming in here as well.grandfather and father both board men in their day .still if the decision has to be made it'll be made .sentitement can't come into it .ive moved to liffeys ,roches feeds and occasionally Glanbia for fertliser meal etc in last few years due to price and quality .father was disgusted the first day a roches feeds lorry arrived in the yard but after seen quality of feed consistently delievered from them he understood.he gave out about ****e dusty feed from arra for years and rarely got any hop .in 5 years buying from roches have never got one bad load of feed

Since 09 the link to manufacturing price has been put in place so that cushion no longer a possibility. Bonus of 3.8 c/l over an ever decreasing portion of milk supplied means for me that 2014 gap is closer.
Thats nothing to cover winter costs

With the price adjustment mechanism finally falling (unfortunately) the side of the producer will we see a c/l extra on liquid for july .

with roches about 10 years , got 1 load that very dusty , rang rep , he took away a sample & arrived back that afternoon with bags for evening & morning milking

following morning artic with forklift & bulk meal bags arrived along with the rep who donned overalls & wellies & helped to empty the bin (could you see any of doc or arra guys doing that)?

when they were finished another lorry was waiting to refill

I honestly dont know but looking at it from a co op point of view why pay extra for something that they don't need to but one thing i have seen is the northern farmer can and does move from co op much easier than his southern counterparts so when the tide changes it will lead to interesting events but thats olny my tuppence worth

I was chatting to a few dairy farming buddies in the pub at the weekend, one of them with a good few on board said of the impending drop in price.
I think it was Father Jack or Billy Connolly said "the world is fu5ked, the world is fu5ked, oh my God the world is fu5ked!"
He still got up on Sunday morning to milk the cows tho.

and that is why Im not overly concerned about the prices. I cant afford to go to the pub at the weekend, so if the price drops in the shops fantastic.

There are a lot of campaigns saying we (public) would be willing to pay more for milk to allow farmers to earn a living. I wouldnt want to pay more. Its up to the farmers to sort it out, the shop makes plenty of profit and if anything they can cut that profit and pay more to farmers.

Another point of view is that if you work in an industry that doesnt work, change industry. If your industry is being bullied by supermarkets, then stand together and fight back and nobody sell them any milk at all. Probably they would get it abroad and farmers couldnt afford to sustain themselves in the interim, but I dont feel it should be down to the consumer to subsidise the industry when the supermarkets earn so much from it.
