Not overly keen on going for sterling just yet, want to see how he'll settle first. I think depay will be must have this season so would prefer to keep him. With Walcott getting subbed for giroud today I'm not sure will he start next week.

Sterling looks to be doing well on their pre season anyway. Yeah im kinda torn between rooney and depay myself. Might end up dropping rooney to kane and getting depay.

Oh i meant cedric was good enough to be a starter for FF instead of a bench player. So you could get a cheaper guy in as you won't use him that much

I remember at the beginning of last season, we were wondering if the Southampton defence would be worth investing in after the departures of Lovren and Shaw. It became apparent fairly quickly though that one of their defenders was essential.

There seems to be the same question again this time around after Alder and Clyne leaving. For that reason I'm tempted to jump on Cedric straight away in the hope that history will repeat itself and they'll be as solid as last season. Fixtures are favourable too.

I don't see a team who appeal for that. There are teams I could see myself taking 2 attacking players from easily though.

Just messing about with a team and trying to fit in the following 5 "must haves" to see how having these 5 expensive players in one squad would impact on the remaining team.

I could drop Schneiderlin for a 4.5 m midfielder that would free up a extra 1M for use in defence or upgrade Sterling to Silva etc.

I know Matic/Schneiderlin/Barry are all defensive midfielders but they are regular starters and give a decent return per Â£M spent. I could go for more attacking players but pickings are slim in the price range and most of the other options are inconsistent and/or rotation risks

3 DMs is waaaay too many, heck I feel like one is too many but starting two every week is a serious way to weaken your team. Between that and having two defenders at 4 who may not play is a serious risk.

Downgrading Costa to Rooney would save .5 which would allow you to bring in a third playing defender, switching Schneiderlin to one of the Norwich attacking mids (Redmond or Johnson) gives you a midfielder who might actually get forward a bit. They allow you to keep your big hitters. Personally I'd advise against having such a stacked attack considering the wealth of decent mid options at the 7-8.5 range but having a strong front 3 could pay off.

Well balanced team as long as you're willing to play Sakho every game which you seem to be.

Considering Sakho myself, toying with the idea of rotating him with a reasonably priced midfielder for home games though.

How much is Schneiderlin? Would there be better value from a more attacking player at a smaller club? Can't see him getting great point returns

After a few changes today after the community shield, I have settled on what I think will be my final draft.

Goalkeepers: I think Rudd(y) is the best 8.5m combo, with really nice opening fixtures.

Defenders: Arsenals defence looked solid today, and bellerin should be good for a few assists aswell. It was a toss up between him and darmian, but I think ballerin edges it for now. The other 4 are cheapies who all rotate well with eachother.

Midfielders: Hazard is a no brainer and gw1 captain, if sterling hits the ground running he could be explosive, and hopefully he will out score silva at the start. I just can't trust Walcott, and have a feeling he will let me down, so I've gone with Ramsey, who I think is the most likely to score. Hopefully Henderson can thrive now that Gerard is gone. Bentaleb is a filler and he might Nick an assist or two, but he won't be leaving my bench anyway.

Forwards: Costa reminded me today of how unreliable he is, and with Chelsea's fixtures, he's not worth the risk. Rooney and Kane it is. Wilson seems to be the best of the bunch at 5.5m, with villa all over the place, he has the potential to get off to a flying start.

Is there anything I'm missing or should change?

Changed it very slightly again after that. He's 5.5 but dropped him there.

GK is Fabianski/Rudd

Defence is unchanged from getting in Cédric

Mid has Depay back, with Walcott gone and Cazorla in as a safer option. Leaves zero in the bank but seems to cover some potential point losses from Schneiderlin.

3-5-2 with Sakho on the bench for GW1 then Ritchie benched for GW2. Aguero can be got in two transfers by downgrading one of Sterling/Walcott and upgrading Rooney. Happy enough with this for now. Will decide on Benteke for sure at the end of the week.

With the doubts over Costa, I have just completed some massive surgery on my team. It has lead to me strengthening the defence. I think the striking options are pretty poor to start off with. A concern is how easy it will be to get Aguero and Sanchez in, most likely will require a wildcard.

Oh I agree. In an ideal world I'd have none. But in order to facilitate the other "must haves" I have little option.

I had a quick look there and alternatives are Sinclair of Villa and Wanyama. Can't see either of them out scoring Barry and Matic and they are considerably riskier.

Actually I like the idea of Redmond or Johnson or both.

Given that at the moment it's an either/or between Taylor and Coloccini most likely and Turner won't play, you look like you may regularly struggle to fill that 3rd defensive spot with anything worthwhile most weeks given Newcastle's fixtures or Palaces. Switch Coloccini with someone more secure and better fixtures and I think you could do well

If you want a Palace defender, get Souare. He's on my watchlist for after GW6 if Pardew can get some cleanies. He scored today in a friendly and was putting in lots of good balls when he started end of season

must agree here, barry is not a ff player does not take pens anymore and rarely takes a set piece only depending on injury. i would be changing my team around as matic is unlikely to score more than Barry.
