Desperate to Move

Hiya this is my first thread so please bear with me!
My husband & I are desperate to move to Wicklow as most of our closest friends live there, Dublin & Gorey. We've been spoilt rotten with rent in Donegal - Ã¢Â‚Â¬340 a month for a 3 bed terrace house in the middle of a village. Pets allowed etc. We know we'd never get that rent anywhere these days and technically should be paying a lot more for what we have, but we'd like something simple with 2 bedrooms that doesn't cost the earth. It seems to be you'd be lucky to get a 1 bed apartment for less than Ã¢Â‚Â¬600 anywhere in the east of the county!!
What I'm asking in a long winded kinda way (I do my husbands head in - I can hear him "get to the point!!") is, does anyone know of anywhere being rented out privately for less than Ã¢Â‚Â¬600 that would allow pets? Awesome pets at that! No further up than Greystones and no further past Brittas Bay.. I'm on daft, my home, gumtree, donedeal etc about 3 times a day, so doing the best I can from afar. My husband is self employed and I've applied for about 15 jobs in the past month.
If you're still awake, fair play! I'm just hoping someone knows someone who might just be willing to help a sister out

2 bed, pets allowed, under 600? You have to be joking. You'd be lucky to get a room in a shared house.

I know it's a long shot but that's the reason why I'm asking for help in the first place. We've only started looking (from across country) so inevitably we will have to increase our budget. Nothing wrong with starting low - never know what's out there, esp rural areas. But thanks for the vote of confidence- much appreciated

I know what you're saying - it's just so boring here. Neither of us are from here so have no real network of friends. I nearly wouldn't mind working 40+ hours a week and know that all our close mates are nearby for socialising. Good for the mind

Strange you found that to be a personal judgement. Sure reply when you get your two bed house for under 600 and I'll admit that I was wrong, you were right. Until then I stand by my original statement, even if it upsets or offends you!

At what point did I give the impression I was offended? I was joking, hence the smiley face. I know it's going to be virtually impossible to get that but where's the harm in trying? We know what we can afford so we will do our best to get as close to what we need as possible. If we can't we will stay put until we can afford to pay more. Simple as that.

Best of luck to you hun. I was going to suggest a place in Bray but it would be above your budget and also, Bray. Also while the area is private, shared kitchen. That's what I'm talking about, rent on the east coast is insane.

The only reason I replied so negatively was because of my very own person experience of trying to rent in Dublin and north Wicklow with pets. In my case one cat and three budgies.

If you had found a place to rent for under 600 I'd probably have tried to steal it from under your nose! Didn't mean to put you down, I really hope you can find this heavenly place, sorry but years of renting have made me so jaded that I kinda know it doesn't exist

PS I love boxers, stupid silly dogs, but so adorable. I'd love to have a dog myself but renting with my cat is actually easier than renting with my three budgies, throwing a dog into the mix wouldn't help! I am an animal lover too and wouldn't dream of rehoming my babes just to be able to rent. High five. Sorry if I upset you.

No upset caused at all - I know it's not gonna be easy and having never lived there before I've no clue what the rental market is like! Haha. I will never rehome my pets in order to move, I couldn't live with myself

I know the prospects are better there than they are here. In theory. My husband is self employed & should be able support us once he gets on his feet, but I'm willing to work any hours I can to take the pressure off (I'm ex-self employed cos my business went flop). Like I said before, we won't move until there's enough security to warrant it.

Took a [very] quick look round just out of curiosity and came up with a couple of things which will probably be of no use to you whatever <g>, given that they're not exactly in the areas you mentioned, but thought they could at least give you a rough idea of the market a bit further afield. Neither mentions pets one way or the other; not terribly encouraging but not a flat-out "no pets" ether. [BTW: Your little darlings sound like wee dotes.

I'm hopeless about animals and totally understand how you feel.]

The further south you go in Wicklow, even down into North Wexford / East Carlow - things get more reasonable. But there's a reason for that, there isn't as much work and people in your position would be commuting longer distances. Outside of the main N11 and train, public transport is almost non existent further inland. You'd have better public transport in parts of Donegal that parts of south/ mid/ west Wicklow. So car expenses come into it. With self employment though, if you can get enough work, things obviously easier with regard to above.

Thanks a lot for the info - really appreciate that! I spent a week in Wicklow handing out CVs, so if I get any decent offers it will determine how much we can spend on rent. I'm thinking we could cope with Ã¢Â‚Â¬850 and I've found an apt in Wicklow town that allows pets at that price, so here's hoping something good comes up

I was going to recommend this one too. Don't dismiss Arklow, now with the new road open it is so fast to Wicklow and Dublin. Although has great shops in the Bridgewater centre and great pubs on the High Street.

This house to rent is on the Brittas Bay road anyway and very close to the beach and the duckpond area. Perfect for walking your dog.

If you go south side of onto you will get something even cheaper but Northside is much better.

It's not looking hopeful right now - forget about somewhere to live; out of all the jobs I've applied for, there's not been so much as a call for an interview. Just good old rejection letters/emails. I'm a real catch haha.
I knew not to get my hopes up anyway, just gotta wait and see

How hard could it be to even pick up the phone and say "thanks for taking the time to apply for the position we advertised but we feel you don't match our criteria at the moment" or something to that effect. It seems unfair that they judge you purely on what's written on paper without meeting you in person- their loss haha
