Cities you'd never return to

Having been in a good few places around the world, I would have to say Budapest is a beautiful one with regard to history and architecture, but it is definately to most unfriendly place I've been, the people I encountered were rude and unhelpful consistantly, hence I will not be returning. Other than that I'd say stuttgart in germany(yawn), or varanassi in India, an interesting place but a nightmare to get around.

That's true, but I wasn't two enamoured with Milan when I was there.

First time it was a city break and once I had seen what there was to see, I was bored. That time I blamed it on the fact it was a really grey day, rain threatening etc and I was feeling a bit sick myself.

Second time I was in Lake Como - stunning an said I'd go on a daytrip. It was a summer's day so thought I'd change my mind. I didn't.

I've seen it and done it.

I'd say the same for Palermo....once you've seen the sights very little else to see/do

I don't think anybody mentioned Brussels - a Frankenstein city if there ever was one. Brussels is like a
fusion of a some soulless North American city with a really boring European one and to make matters worse it is populated by beurocrats
all on expense accounts which makes the city very expensive.

And as for Berlin - concrete, concrete and more concrete. It has all charm of a Roadstone breezeblock.

Plenty of concrete in a huge western city, which had to be largely rebuilt 70 odd years ago, is fairly bizarre for sure.

It does have dozens of parks and playgrounds for kids on almost every block mind you. And as mentioned the lakes are great.

It's a fantastic city. Exemplary.

Florence. I was only there for a day but I was disappointed.

Granted, I did go at the height of the summer in the sweltering heat with queues a mile long in every direction.

And Aberdeen, nice for a weekend but it's dreary and expensive living here.

Newcastle, the novelty of a tacky as f**k stag do, wears off with the hangover saturday morning.

Thinking that people visiting on stag or hens were led to a temple bar type area tailored for them, I asked a cab drive where do the locals go out, he hadn't a clue by what i mean by that question.

Someone obviously didn't do their research and find out that this city (which including suburbs would be double the size of Dublin) isn't focused as much on the centre as other cities might be, so you have to have your research done and know where the pockets of action are.

Berlin and Budapest would be similar, in that you can get bloody unlucky and have it hard to find any class of lively bar if you haven't an idea of where the bars are.

Sure Innsbruck is the same. I went there with a mate and thought it was the crappest place ever and could hardly get a beer after 11, but a second time discovered a whole area of pubs down near the university and a class live venue not far away.

We were there for a cupla days 5 years ago. We liked it, nice old town, by the river, nice castle. Not much else going on and quite small but not bad by any means.

Not quite! I agree Riga is a nice place aesthetically. However, the locals tried to fight us (3 of us) a few times. Offered drugs and prostitutes at every corner and forced to pay a backhander to the local police for "drinking outside" which in reality was at the door of a pub while on the phone. Pay €100 or be arrested.

Having lived in Portugal, Lagos is a lovely town later in the year, and definitely not a city, imo.
