Moving to Clonmel in the Fall

Hi all,

I am planning on moving to Clonmel (from New York City - I know...) in the fall to help take care of a family member. I don't know many in the area (I'm in my mid 20s and the family I have nearby are in their 50s/90s) and will have limited means of transportation. I am trying to look into groups and activities to join to meet people but would love some suggestions. As of now I am looking into joining the Clonmel Park Leisure Center as well as potentially the Clonmel Rowing Club (but will have to check that they take novices). I enjoy taking classes, learning languages, movies, dance, etc. Anything social really.

Also, how is the public transportation within the town itself? Are there busses from one end to the other?

Clonmel isn't that big so you could easily get about by walking, or you could cycle. The Park Hotel has a big gym membership and you should easily get to meet people there, the rowing club do have some adults rowing at beginner level so you should be ok there too (my teenage niece loves it up there anyway) there is plenty going on in the town, if you look for it !!....Good luck with the move !!

On the transport side of things there are two town bus routes. Here are the timetables:

The rail service is just twice a day each way and none on Sundays but on the plus side the trains are usually punctual, very comfortable and have charging points at every seat. Day return tickets for several journeys are much cheaper than the bus. Clonmel to Waterford day return is just €6.90. Tickets are bought from staff member onboard the train.

Several changes to the bus services to Dublin & Dublin Airport recently with most travelling on the motorway from Kikenny onwards to Dublin. Traffic though can mean that the times shown in the timetable are not always attained. Timetables:

New timetable on Clonmel-Fermoy-Cork bus route since last Sunday and route renumbered 245.
