Farrell was very good. It doesn't start as well as season 1 but it was a very strong start and set things up fairly well

i had forgotten how good the the writing was in season one, this seasons first episode probably doesnt have the same strength of characters, but the dialogue and execution is still excellent. Not at all sold on vince vaughans character yet.... scary mob boss, nah... gangster with a heart.... nah.

taylor kitchs character is intriguing though

It is, but the end scene was really as far away from the first season as you could get. A real CSI kind of shot... seemed out of place. Some of it just doesn't sit right, a lot of sweeping shots seem to be trying to replicate season 1 but don't actually have any bearing on the story or setting, where as in season 1 they had everything to do with it, especially due to Rust's hallucinations and dour look on the world and people.

Is it directed by the same person(s)?

Cary Fukunaga directed all Season 1. Justin Lin directed the 1st episode of 2. He's directed some of the Fast and the Furious films and the next Star Trek.

Wouldn't put too much stock in that, really. A lot of the time in television that sort of stuff happens but they're barely involved in the actual day to day running or creativity element.

The extent of the two boys being executive producers might be a few meetings with the current actors and writers before production and that's it.

It's so, so good. I've re-watched it about 3 times now. It gets better every time. However it's probably colouring my opinion on season 2, which is essentially a different product all together.

I have to say I never liked either TD or Hannibal. I tried watching TD when it came out first and got about 4 episodes in before giving up on it completely. It just felt like hard work. I tried to watch it again then at Christmas and again got about 5 episodes in before giving up completely. I actually thought lasts nights episode was far better than season 1. But the obsession with making all the characters so dark is still there and is still annoying. Ooooh look, this person has serious issues and is such an anti-hero. Deeeeeep. Except it's not. At all. And it isn't original either.

Hannibal was up it's own hole from day 1.

Actually I would say TD successfully achieves the 'deep' status quite well when you actually read into the background of it and the premises of the yellow king and the mythology surround 'carcosa'. It certainly isn't being superficial and there's a lot of stuff you just simply miss or don't pick up on first viewing, there's a massive amount of thought that goes into the dialogue and in particular a huge amount of work gone into Rust's character.

But I appreciate it's not to everyone's taste and it IS quite slow paced, but that's what I love about it. It doesn't need to be anything special in terms of development and pace, it's all about the characters and how they would function in real life - aside from the surrealism it's actually very believable and nothing too extraordinary, so when something does happen that's a bit leftfield it stands out. The heist in the ghetto shot is one of the best bits of television, ever, and what makes it so unbelievably good is everything until that point is practically just mundane police work. It's a less-is-more approach.

The new one is appealing to people who didn't like the first one, and that's probably what the show's creators wanted, they wanted a totally different product and story. Still, there's a lot of parallels which I wish they'd just steer clear of.

Haven't seen Hannibal but that reminds me of Sherlock, really didn't like that because of the same reasons. If you make the main character too "powerful" it just makes it boring.

First series was a bit painful, only really stuck it because my daughter was watching it and wanted me to, that time reverse thing had to be the single most pretentious piece of cinematography ever. Second season was considerably better and leans much more towards the silence of the lambs and the premiss that the best person to catch a thief is a thief.
