KIERNAN will be unveiled at Mark Warburton's first signing for Gers later today but is fuming at claims from Brum. ROB KIERNAN pulled the plug on a move to Birmingham City at the 11th hour to pave the way for a reunion with mentor Mark Warburton at Rangers . Wigan defender Kiernan is set to become Warburton’s first signing today after travelling to Glasgow last night to begin thrashing out the terms of his contract. But the former Republic of Ireland Under-21 captain has been angered by claims in the Midlands that his proposed move to St Andrews collapsed because of concerns which were flagged up by doctors during his medical. Instead, the player’s camp are adamant it was the 24-year-old who backed out of the deal after learning that Warburton, his former youth coach at Watford, wanted to take him to Ibrox. One source close to the deal said: “Birmingham are obviously trying to cover their back here. “But the truth is it was Rob who pulled the plug on the move, not the other way around. “Once he knew that Warburton had got the Rangers job his mind was made up.” All the latest news from Ibrox Record Sport understands Warburton wants Kiernan and former Hearts skipper Danny Wilson to form the defensive heart of a new look starting X1 and hopes to have both players tied up before the end of this week. Kiernan spent the last half of last season on loan at Birmingham. He played 12 games and had been expected to complete a more permanent move this week after agreeing a two-year contract. But Kiernan has opted instead to sign up for Warburton’s revolution after spending most of his career bouncing around clubs in England’s lower leagues. He grew up playing under Warburton for Watford’s development squad and the pair joined forces briefly again in 2012 when Kiernan joined Brentford on loan for two months in League One. He also played four games in Scotland’s top flight during a loan stint at Kilmarnock in 2010. He made his debut for the Ayrshire men in a 1-0 Rugby Park win over Celtic on the night Robbie Keane pulled on the hoops for the first time.

Eirebear wrote: » Sigh. I for one am happy to see us build a fairly young squad of players with a decent pedigree. We are, after all, a championship side. No one is suggesting that there's no risk, but I think the signals are pretty clear from Warburton as to the type of player he wants.I wonder what the reaction would be if we were splashing out on players 'out with our means'?
Savage Tyrant wrote: » Yeah that's what I'd do too if I had "unlimited funds" ... Buy a player that another club already baulked at due to his medical record.

Broxi_Bear_Eire wrote: » You were doing well up until your last paragraph mate. Let's see he was brought into stabilise the club and get promotion first and foremost. Well he obviously believes he can do this and the board feel he is the man for the job I know there is talk that he was not first choice but after promotion went awry things changed. I am sure DW will have told him all about this club and a log about King to which obviously satisfied him. As for the Chairman not being stable well all I will say in that is I don't know where that is coming from. Finally is there a risk involved in appointing W&W of course there is but there's risks involved whenever a new manager comes in. What I am looking forward to is seeing new ideas implemented and a freshness about how we play he seems to have an attacking philosophy so that bodes well.
Intifada wrote: » Of course I am willing it all to go wrong again, but I'm sure your IQ is up to the task of separating that from the objective facts of the matter. Does the fact that the very people you are dismissing are the only ones who told you the last time, and the time before that, grate with you? Understandable if so, but you should not express surprise that other people are aware of the risks surrounding King - regardless of whether they are neutral or not. And as for gloating, I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be allowed.
Broxi_Bear_Eire wrote: » No I just think you and your ilk tend to be blinkered the man at the moment will do for me. Now I know you are going to come back with something about me not listening again. And you would be right in this case as you fall into the catogary of Celtic fan that no matter who was in charge you would have a go. I am sure you are willing it to all go wrong and you would be in gloating if it did. I will continue to make up my own mind about my club without the aid of your undoubted wisdom  if that's alright with you.
Intifada wrote: » That is because you do the equivalent of putting your fingers in your ears and shouting loudly whenever anybody explains.

Dozen Wicked Words wrote: » I'm not a Brentford fan, but he seems like a very decent guy as well as excellent manager. He Was told he was getting replaced at Brentford when they were still in the automatic promotion places, and although they had a bit of a wobble, to make it to the playoffs was a huge achievement for him. He had every right to be angry with the chairman but was a complete and utter professional about it. Not sure Rangers is a good move for him, time will tell but I would have thought he would have wanted a stable club to work at, and stable, realistic, chairman. Could be argued Rangers aren't close to having either yet. Wish him well though.
