advise please about concrete order

If I were doing a small amount of concrete I'd use a mixer.

They will deliver any amount but will be a small load charge on it . Best thing is to ring a few locals and get a price or tell them you can wait untill they have a bit extra off a load being delivered near you if it suits . Its about 1.3mcu

If you know anyone who drives a ready mix lorry, they would sometimes have a small amount like that left over on jobs and might give it to you if you throw them a few quid.

Most concrete suppliers have a minimum charge, could be the price of 3 or 4 metres of concrete. You might as well ready a place to put the rest of the load, and get it laid , if you have to pay for it ? Crush floor , floor in a small shed? Rarely that we haven't sum corner for it.

You will need less than 1.5metres. The cost for a small load like that is about 80+vat/cubic meter and ther part load charge. I think this is about 30+vat euro/cubic meter on the amount less than 6 metres. So that is 4.5X30 which is 135 euro. So in total it will cost you about 250+vat the vat is reclaimable.

However if you are putting in a base for a meal bin I would make it about 11X8 the reason being that if you are filling a barrow etc it is handy to have that up on a concrete lip/ Make sure to slope the end, This 3 feet extension omly needs to be 2-3'' deep. However I taught Dept spec for a meal bin base was 300mm deep I might be wrong.

Have a look around the yard as there may be a shed taht could use a floor or a bit of a area that ideally could use a concrete base in front of a shed etc. If not and you are not drawing a garnt I get 10 ton of gravel dropped off and buy 10-15 bags of cement mixing it next to base will amke it very easy other option is to put the word out to a few lorry drivers and have your base ready.

and I was told I was mad to buy a pan mixer :rolleyes:

put in concrete posts around my silage bales last week 2 evenings,

10 mins and the first mix was done of 1.0m3 of concrete costing me under €30

then about 40 mins later we needed another mix and BOOM it was ready and mixing as we set up the next few posts

Mixed 1 cubic of concrete this morning on my own before going to work. Got up just before six, mixed, placed and was washed up for 8. It's not that bad but I wouldn't be doing it every day. A 2 person crew would be fine doing 1.5 meters in a once of situation.
I tried 3 local-ish concrete companies and they had no more interest in supplying anything under 2 meters. All trucks have GPS tracking, so no point slipping the driver a €50.

Edited - one crowd said they could send one meter of 30newton next week when a farmer 5 miles away was due to get a few loads. And it'd be €135 +Vat. Balls to that

1 meter something like 14 or 17 wheelbarrows?

If you have a tractor and trailer or a car/jeep with a trailer you could go to the yard and get the amount you want.

so 1.5m3 is over 3.5ton weight plus trailer.

I have a pan mixer here , handy for small jobs like that. Putting up a cattle pen 1 1/2 years ago, it was very handy. I have built quite a few walls in sheds using it, and put 20 ft onto the end of the silage slab . Fill it with the back bucket of the Digger and let it out into the front bucket of it, and the fill the shutters with the front . No great hassle.
However, it's more for handiness than cost I use it . I wouldn't dream of putting a floor in a 4 span shed using it. The Reason ? Cost. I got a 23 ton load of gravel a fortnight ago- €350 inc vat. A ton of cement is as near as makes no difference to €200 . 220 kg of cement to the cubic metre of concrete, for a 9 m load you will need the thick end of 2 tons of cement and the majority of the load of gravel. A ready mix supplier told me that his only chance of making a profit was because he can get. The cement delivered in bulk for something over €100 a ton. Another thing, most gravel hasn't enough of stone in it, which is the hard wearing bit, in a yard, slab etc.

How many bags of cement do you put into a metre and does you mixer make a metre at a time or less ?

5 bags, 5 scoops of a 4ft bucket of mini digger and 4 gallons of water

I poured a 50ft x 22ft floor 3 years ago and 21 meters in it. 2 Saturday afternoons did it .

its a 0.8M3 but easy it does 1m3

I don't know the brand , maybe HRH or HRM I think. I bought it 2nd hand off a lad who used it 5 times for footpaths around new lidl or aldi but engineers wount pass the concrete even thought it was only a M3 here and there when they were short

steep enough seeing the plant would be going and no lorry expense

issue with pan mixer is cleaning it. takes 20 minutes to wash it out, be it 1 m3 or 20m3 in the pour

I think a mate of mine is using about 12 bags per metre , I wonder is he overdoing it . 4 gallons seems very little , would it be very dry at that
