Oh how I hate paypal

I have a Paypal account which is linked to a verified credit card. All was well for the last few years.

Then the other day those ****tards in Paypal set my account to 'limited' saying that they need proof of my bank account (which isn't connected to my Paypal account), and they want evidence of my Non-Profit Org status. WTF? It's just a personal account. Sending money/payment is not allowed for 'limited' accounts.

So now I'm trying to send money to my landlord for 4 days now and can't. I'm in the Philippines, he is in Singapore, so I don't have many options for payment. I've contacted Paypal support and uploaded documents but nothing is happening for 3 days.

Anyone else here have any similar problems with Paypal? Did you get it resolved and how long did it take? Can anyone near their support centre drop in an give them a good kick up the arse for me?

Sold a laptop recently and they said they wouldn't let me have the money until August as I had never sold anything before. Buyer was sound and so we cancelled the transaction.

I use Skrill a lot and never had an issue with them and they give you a debit Mastercard. Wish you could buy and sell on Ebay with it.

They are a complete pain in the hole to deal with and the bizarre rules and regulations really gets on my nerves. This seems to be a real trend with online companies now, asking for photo ID, phone numbers, driving licenses etc. You can't even open a email account without giving them your phone number now, Facebook wants your phone number for two-step verification (read: data mining) and AirBNB requires you to give them access to your Facebook account and post them in photo ID. I really wish they'd all fúck right off.

OP, a bank transfer is probably the easiest way to do it.

OP, a bank transfer is probably the easiest way to do it.

On don't get me started on AirBNB. I asked them for a password reset and they banned my account and refused to say why. And yeah...had to jump through a lot of hoops with them just to book accommodation. In fact, it's because of that ban that I had to use paypal to pay my landlord.

That's a cross boarder transfer. I'm going to assume you've dome this before? If that's the case you've hit a limit. Every financial institution has them. They are generally on a yearly basis.

PayPal has to be very careful with regards to money laundering. They have a tiered verification process. So for example at what we shall refer to as Tier 1 your limit will be X amount. At Tier 2 it's increased to Y amount..etc...

Best thing is to ring them. Ask to be put though to an agent that deals with limits and verification. Ask exactly what you need to send. As for examples if your not sue what kind of documentation you need and get them to email the list to you. Gather it all and upload it & mail the agent who mailed you. Make sure to get the name of another agent who deals with it too. CC them. If you don't get a call/mail back in 24 hours then call them again.

I registered with them when I travelled. I actually registered on my phone and took a photo of my passport with it. The whole process took about 15 minutes.

Well it does and doesn't matter. Ebay and paypal were the same company (and might still be. I think the split is this month). They way it worked was that for first time sellers money was held for 21 days or what they refer to as DC+5. DC+5 means 5 days after delivery confirmation. So if you ship the item tracked and upload the tacking number, then the money is freed 5 days after the item is noted as delivered. If no tracking is provided then it takes 21 days from the sale.

The reason was because of stuff like this

It gives a buyer time to get the money back if they ended up buying something misleading or if the item was never sent.

The amount of fraud on ebay has dropped massively since then.

(Edit: the reason I said it doesn't matter is because I have no idea what the system will be like after the split. It may have changed in the last month or so. My information is about a month old. It's always been possible to get the money earlier by providing additional verification, however that's the kind of thing that the OP was complaining about)

I will say that it makes the whole system fa safe for buyers and sellers but it can be a headache if you don't know about it.

upload it and click verify. it charges you a penny and there's a code next to the payment on the statement. upload the code to the site and you're verified.

They requested it shortly after I added it. Basically, they charge you €1.50 and it shows up on your bank statement a few days later with a 4 digit code as the payment details. You then enter that code on Paypal and it confirms ownership. Takes about 4 days.

thats all in the terms and conditions, happened to a mate of mine last year. He received almost 2k through pay pal, the max a personal account can receive is 2k in one year I believe. Once you go over it, you need a merchant account, which you have to pay for.

Personally, I love paypal!

Lol...went into a local bank to try a direct deposit to my landlords bank account and whilst queuing, their computer systems went offline. Internet here is like early 1990's in terms of speed & reliability & cost triple what we pay in Ireland.

So..no AIRBNB, no Paypal, and no Bank transfers. I might try payment by carrier pigeon. Though on second thoughts they eat pigeons here...

On the plus side, Paypal got back to me. Some of the payments I received 'looked like donations', which is against Paypal policy...hence the limitations. That means someone is actually sitting in a Paypal building somewhere looking at random payments being sent/received & flagging some of them.
I have to send them a sworn affidavit to confirm that the account is not being used for donations.

What? Paypal absolutely allow for donations. They even have a tool on their website to create donation buttons.

I maintain an open source project and receive hundreds per month in donations right to my paypal and never have had that issue.

it depends on the account you have set up, a personal account cannot take donations, you need a business account, and it has to be set up as "non profit" They are very strict on that too!

Verified by Visa is a total pox on the other hand. Forced to use once in a blue moon and can never remember the bloody password. Always have to reset and then get told I'm reusing an old password and to try again. Don't know how many carts I've just abandoned thanks to it.

I sold an item to the US a couple of years ago on eBay. The guy decided it was fake and lodged a dispute. It wasn't fake but what can you do? It meant I'd be out of the shipping costs but that's a risk with selling on eBay.

I had no money in my Paypal account. Buyer sent the item back and it didn't arrive with me, Paypal refunded him anyway and told me to cough up. I "politely" told them I wouldn't. The tracking details showed it arrived in a warehouse and never left. I contacted the warehouse who didn't care about dealing with me and the buyer wouldn't answer my mails.

About a year later they sent debt collectors after me. They rang me about every second day for a couple of weeks. Haven't heard from them since and will never use Paypal again.
