Anyone planning on making the jump from 7 to 10?

I will stick with 7 as long as possible unless 10 improves on 7 somehow. I starting to think Msft only make a decent OS every 2nd time or so.

Im sure they will offer DX17 or something as a W10 only option.

Out today on Insider if anyone on it, havent been arsed downloading it.

It's annoying, but also place holder I think, they're slowly working on bringing everything into the theme of Win 10, jumplists were the most recent.

The accent colours affect things like the colour of the buttons in the notification centre.

There are a fair few different things that cause anything internet related to absolutely chug along.

After an upgrade, most flash videos won't work, with a green bar appearing where the video should be. Facebook in particular, kills Firefox with a vengence, the whole computer will freeze if I have it in fullscreen, I have to make it windowed, and then I've got maybe 30 seconds to close facebook before the browser crashes.

For some reason, the latest AMD drivers that Microsoft provide are causing most of those problems, so I just reinstall the latest one from the AMD website, not the beta ones, just the normal ones. Everything works great after that.

I uninstalled that update in annoyance after discovering that entering your details isn't enough to make it shut up and go away. And on my Win8 tablet the icon on the taskbar forces itself into exactly where I normally have the keyboard shortcut.

I can understand the logic of releasing an update to notify people that they can get an upgrade to Windows 10 for free, but I don't need the damn thing nagging me after I've already told it what to do. Given how many posts I found with people moaning about it, I think it was a silly move on Microsoft's part not to at least have a "Leave me alone"-type checkbox on it.

Click the little upward triangle to the right of the notification area, click Customize, and select "Only show notifications" for GWX/Widows 10. It'll still be there, ready to do whatever it needs to do, but it won't be displayed in the Notifications area until there's something to notify you about.

I appreciate the suggestion, but I'm not using it - I always have everything in the notification area visible, particularly on the tablet where having crud running in the background results in battery loss.

I still don't understand why MS think it's a win for me to have to put up with some stupid nagware that not only runs in the system tray for no reason after doing what it wants me to do, but also re-starts itself on a regular basis if I kill it. MS know their release date, I don't see why they couldn't have just scheduled the damn thing to go dormant after I signed up, rather than sitting there annoying me.

But anyway. I've uninstalled KB3035583 and hidden it in WU; I'll unhide it on the relevant devices as and when I'm happy to upgrade them to Win10.

Ah, it not really meant for you, it's meant for people who are clueless to be honest. It also, if you agree to it, begins to pre-download Windows 10, presumably so as to lessen the load on their server come the 29th July.

From my point of view, I wouldn't like it popping up, but I can see that Microsoft are desperate to get people to upgrade. Their entire future really depends on Windows 10 and it's built in store being successful.

Can anyone tell me how do I update to the latest build? I can't figure it out. I've just installed 10074.

Also, when I first installed it, I was able to access "This PC" but now I can't find it when I search. Any ideas?

You have to change your updates to the fast release cycle. This means you get less stable build tho!

"This PC" is the same as My Computer or what ever MS decide to call it. You can select it from the Start menu, the explorer side bar or simply hold down the windows key and pressing E. They also allow you to open new windows here too.

I have now updated to the lastest Build. However, I can't find Boot Camp Control Panel anywhere. It's nowhere to be found, and now I can't change settings such as trackpad settings (I'm using a Mac) and now I can't right-click. Any idea why Boot Camp Control Panel is not showing up anywhere for me? It's not showing up when I search, it's not in System Configuration or This PC and it's not in the icon tray in the bottom corner. I also tried "Show All Icons" but it's not listed there either.

I've never used boot camp, parallels meets all my windows needs on OS X.

You shouldn't need to. If you've gone into the preview by upgrading from your normal Windows, then you're still activated, and it'll just go to the final release automatically.*

There will also be a continuous preview program after release, as Windows 10 is going to be a constantly updated OS.

* Still some stuff unknown about this, so while I really don't think that there will be any problems, there's still a remote chance that they'll screw something up.

Mine won't let me select the fast ring. It keeps reverting to slow. Any ideas?

Sounds like you need to reinstall the Boot Camp drivers package. If you don't have the file you can recreate it using the Boot Camp Assistant in OS X. Hold Option when powering on and you'll get a screen where you can select OS X instead of Windows as the OS to boot.

Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family
tried the windows 7/8 32bit driver almost blue screen the laptop

looked on net no supported driver for graphics card
this makes the start menu really slow

I guess people who are using this graphics card with older laptops will be in
trouble with windows 10

anybody else notice this?

Anything older than the Arrandale (1st gen i3/i5) graphics chip is not supported in Windows 8; in fact Intel actually went out of their way to block installation of these drivers on Windows 8. I'd say that Windows 10 will be the same, possibly more will not be supported. If the last Windows 7 driver doesn't work then there's probably nothing you can do.

Regarding graphics cards, it seems that Nvidia will also not be supporting anything older than the GeForce 400 series. That's my laptop out of the question so, as it has an NVS 5100M which is based on a GeForce 300 series card.

I've gotten the technical preview and everything seems to be working fine, except I can't drag and drop icons that are on my desktop. It just won't let me. I can do it from folders and the likes. Anyone encountered this and know how to fix it?

Not happening here.
Do they not move at all, or do they return to the starting position when the mouse is released?

Took a Win 10 hard drive out of a Intel core 2 Latitude laptop, and placed into an AMD C-50 processor laptop.
Worked straight off without any whinging about architecture changes/ no bluescreens, which is nice to see for those horrible days on which your laptop goes CRUNCH.

No Intel 5000 graphics driver available is the biggest problem.

The latest build has apparently put a lot of polish on it, it's meant to have reassured Microsoft watchers that they can actually finish it on time and to a high standard.

There's also going to be changes to the windows insider program, mainly all around the fact that the program will continue, but some people will choose to remain on the release build.

We'll also be getting the final release on the same day as everyone else.

I installed the latest build yesterday.

It's horrific.

Fundamental ui bugs all over the place. Mouse pointer not working in the start menu properly. Internal window margins not being respected by text. Performance is awful. Apps crashing. Compatibility with previous gen apps is flaky.

Large portions of the "modern UI" are just blank white rectangles of text which cover up existing dialogue boxes. The UI is wasteful, indistinct, unhelpful and inconsistent. Sometimes things scroll side to side, sometimes up and down. Scroll bars, scroll arrows and selection rectangles are so faint and hidden they may as well not exist at all. Random little bits of text might be buttons, or might not, but don't have much context to explain them. Sometimes the "three dots" menu is horizontal, sometimes vertical.

Modern apps have effectively no settings or customisation at all. I don't mean from a skinning the ui perspective either, I mean that in apps like mail, calendar etc there are perhaps 5 toggles for extraordinarily broad items and nothing else at all.

Cortana is supposedly smart and plugged into my email but doesn't realise there's a flight confirmation which could go into the calendar. The calendar has a location bar but this isn't smart and plugged into maps.

Windows 7 wasn't this buggy 30 weeks before release, never mind 30 days. There is no way in hell this is ready for release. None of their "grand ideas" are even close to being attempted, from what I can tell.
