Is leaving your number weird?

I'm infatuated with the lady that works in a pub near me. I get the impression she might be into me too, and yesterday when she gave me my change she did so in the loveliest most charming manner, all of my friends were doing the "oooh" thing and told me I should leave my number.

I want to, but I feel if I'm wrong and the feeling isn't mutual then I can never go back to that pub again which would be a shame because it's a great pub.

What is your experience with this and would you be flattered or creeped out if someone did this? Horror/success stories?

I keep thinking of scenarios where it would go horribly wrong, like trying to leave her a note with my number and it falling to the ground and me picking it up and awkwardly fumbling it down on the counter while she comes back and I run out the door.

Something about hitting on someone at their place of work just seems a bit strange though... :eek:

She well may be, but leaving your number is lame and a bit cowardly. A lot of women don't want to make the first move.

Go in some day on your own at a time you know it's not too busy. Chat to her for a while. Actually show your interested in her and ask her out.

Worst case scenario is she says no. So what?

More lazy than weird I think. Hard one to call as it is her job to be friendly. But, if you think she is interested then ask her out, and whatever you do, don't take her to a pub for a 1st date!

As far as she's concerned she's on a stage acting the barmaid part. I wouldn't do anything until you could get to talk to her outside of the pub and suss out the vibes then. Try finding out off of another bartender do they head on to some disco after work maybe?

Op I've pulled about 4 barmaids in my time. I never pulled any while they were working mind you, but usually when they've finished the shift.

If you get the feeling she's into you, ask her something like if she fancies sitting on the same side of the bar as you, but in a different venue if she likes some evening. (Keeps the subject on topic without straight out implying it's a 'date')

She'll either accept your offer, or she'll not. It won't be as awkward as you think if she declines you.

OP, maybe give it another while yet - I don't know if leaving your number at her workplace would be ideal either. I know pubs are less formal than other workplaces and it's not an "offensive" thing to do, but it might cause her a bit of awkwardness with you being a customer, conflict of interests and all that.

Leave things as they are for another while, you might get a clearer picture of whether there could be potential then (IMO).

The only way he'll get a clearer picture is if he goes and chats to her. Trying to suss things out while the girl is working and purely attending to his needs as a customer can be difficult. Too hard to tell if she's into him or just doing her job.

Talk to her. I'm speaking from experience.

A lot of men jump to conclusions and take practically any signs of attentiveness or friendliness in an attractive female as them being into you..a lot of the time it means nothing more than her being a nice person. Maybe ask to buy her a drink? get to know each other, when you start talking it'll be pretty clear whether she's into you in that way or not. Will work better than leaving your number

2: If you genuinely think she's into you, just ask her out early into her shift before she has to deal with the other 15 drunks who think she wants them

3: If she gives you an excuse, just accept it and move on

That was my guess too. It is not clear from the OP if she is a barmaid (pulling pints) or lounge girl (bringing drinks to a table). In this country is it not really normal to tip bartenders.

Also do people really "leave their number"? I thought that only went on in cheesy US tv shows.

Strike up a conversation and gauge whether she likes you or not like the rest of us do, other than that leave her to do her job.

Leaving a number with a woman sometimes backfires because she might want to call but won't, for example, if she's shy or one of those ones thinks that woman shouldn't ask men out.
