Anyone else extremely envious of funny people?

I mean, I can be funny occasionally I suppose. But some people are naturally and uproariously funny all the time. Wet-your-pants funny.

I shared a train journey with an old schoolmate earlier today, and I laughed so hard my face hurt. I have a man crush on his funnyness.

The ability to make another human emit these primitive sounds that signal sheer joy must be one of the most endearing characteristics in a person. I had a really crappy week and that two hours of laughter has put me in a great mood all day.

So are the people of AH funny? Can people learn to be funny, or are they just born that way?

Funny people, I think you're just great.

The ability to laugh a lot, or make others laugh, is very attractive. Think it underpins a lot of good relationships.

I love genuinely spontaneously witty people, but not people who are 'on' all the time, waiting for an opportunity to use some line they've been saving up for an opportunity to use.

And I get a bit fed up with joke tellers - you know the ones, something ordinary occurs and it reminds them of some stupid joke that takes 10 minutes to tell, but you feel compelled by manners to laugh politely at the end, which only leads to more tedious 'jokes', which in turn leads them to believe that everyone thinks they're hilarious because they've had them captivated for so long.

Yeah. I like people who are funny a lot of the time, but it can grate when you get the idea that someone is forcing it a bit and there is an effort to turn everything into a wisecrack.

Yes, the tearful clown phenomenon probably is accurate. But perhaps not in my old friend's case. He's a very relaxed guy, which is probably why he's funny.

We teach kids the importance of being a good listener, of being a sensitive and supportive friend. Maybe we should teach them how to make people laugh?

I agree with whomever said that you shouldn't be "on" all the time. That's true. In my friend's case, he just saw I was stressed and was cheering me up. He's well able to have a serious chat when needs be. In fact, I would assume part of the ability to make people laugh requires a strong sensitivity to their mood and personality.

I have a couple of mates like that. Grown men who act like children, it's brilliant. I can't be arsed with people who are serious all the time. I like the irish humor and the constant piss taking, it get you threw the monotony of life at times.

My brother. He has teeth like Shane McGowan but he's so sound and so piss-the-pants hilarious, he's always had the loveliest of women on his arm (except for one total loony but we won't mention her....). I fcuking love proper funny people more than anything and I'd forgive anything and anyone if they could make me laugh - it's a real gift. People who tell jokes can fcuk right off though.

I dont think telling jokes was ever a thing
I dont think long ago people constatnly told knock knock jokes to impress their friends and theyd have people rolling around laughing at them

Interesting point that. Wonder if it's something to do with freedom to speak your mind and actually discuss issues these days. You done have to couch controversial issues in constructed joke form because you can just say to your mates 'what's the story with..?'

I'd love to be the sort who could come up with something spontaneously funny on demand, but I'm not.

The ability to make someone laugh is definitely an aphrodisiac. Problem is, humour is so subjective - so what might turn one person on could repulse someone else.

Used to work in newspapers and write headlines. Some just had to be obviously straight-up news headlines but for features and lighter stuff, wordplay/puns were hugely endorsed. Could never ever think of them at the time... always thought of something just when the paper was gone to print though. :rolleyes:
