Hi guys,I am Killarney a lot during the summer and am wondering which Chinese takeaway in the town you locals prefer.have been to xin gardens out near tesco a few times.it,s nice.is there better in town?

Probably posting in the wrong place BUT I'll give it a shot. I have moved back to Killarney and I need to get broadband sorted asap. I am not moving what I have atm because it's absolutely useless. I am just wondering is there UPC in the area or any fibre in around the town? I know there is inside in the town centre but out in the likes of Woodlawn and Ballycasheen?

There is no UPC in town as far as I know, but you can get efibre in town area with eircom, sky. And I only presume Vodafone will offer it too.

Excellent stuff!! I am not too bothered if UPC isn't there or not, as long as I get something that's a lot faster and unlimited usage I'll be happy out

I had sky, then went to eircom for the efibre and evision, but will be returning to sky when contract finished as they are now efibre and unlimited. Saying that, I must look at Vodafone too.

My friend lives in the middle of town and has Vodafone and swears by it. I think I might look into them first before I go near Sky. I don't think I want to go near Eircom. I was with them twice before and each time they caused me grief!

I'm living on the Muckross Road, a stones throw from you. With eircom using efibre and it has never given me any problems, full speeds all week round.

I used to be with eircom. I didn't have issues with the service they provided, it was more the billing department I had problems with. I used to get two different bills for no reason or they wouldn't take the money out of the account on the date they were meant to take it. I know some banks cause delays and what not but it was taking the piss in the end.

I am leaning towards Sky or Vodafone atm. But if you're getting fibre broadband on the Muckross road I am sure we'll be able to get it down Woodlawn

All using the same lines so you'll get the same max speed with them all.

No UPC broadband (or even cable) in Kerry. All of Killarney's UPC is MMDS served from either Slieve Mish near Tralee or else a small repeater on elevated ground to the south of the town (on a hill opposite the town side of the Mill Road)

What hotel are you staying in? A lot of hotels have on site treatment rooms with qualified masseuse/masseurs and beauty therapists should the need arise.

I have a friend working in the Malton and have availed of their services a few times. Top notch and always well looked after by all the staff.

DOG owners in Killarney have been put on red alert following confirmation that a number of pets have been felled by poisoning after they were walked in public areas.

Two dogs have died and two others were left fighting for life in recent days and fears are now mounting that it could be a result of strychnine poisoning.

A concerned local vet has warned the public to be cautious when walking their dogs and to exercise extra care in the national park where at least two of the animals fell seriously ill.

Danny O’Sullivan of the All-Care Veterinary Clinic said two dogs rushed to him in the past three days exhibited classic symptoms of strychnine poisoning.

He has notified gardaí and the National Parks and Wildlife Service and they have urged the public to be extra vigilant and not let their dogs wander off main pedestrian pathways.

One dog died in the Muckross area after walking near Torc and two others are understood to have been walking in the national park at Knockreer just before they fell ill.

One man, from Woodlawn, walked his pet in the area known as The Demesne and the dog became very seriously ill within 30 minutes.

Symptoms of strychnine poisoning, which can strike immediately, include stiffness, tremors, fitting, convulsions and the dog left gasping for air. Unless they are treated almost immediately, they have little or no chance of survival.

“It happens very, very fast and without warning. If they are not seen to, they will suffer horrific deaths,” Mr O’Sullivan told KillarneyToday.com.

He said extra caution needs to be taken in The Demesne which has become a standard walking area for dog owners and he pleaded with people to keep their dogs on leads or, if not, to keep them muzzled to stop them picking up poison.

If there are any signs of a dog becoming unwell it should be brought to a vet immediately.

Two of the dogs Mr O’Sullivan treated this week – both young and perfectly healthy before they were poisoned – are slowly recovering but they had to be kept under anesthetic to stop them convulsing during treatment.

Blood and urine tests have been sent to a specialist laboratory in the UK to determine if strychnine was a factor.

Mr O’Sullivan said strychnine has been banned for years and, if it is to blame, nobody has any idea where it is could be coming from. There is a possibility that it is being used as bait and it is being spread by foxes or other creatures.

“The frequency would indicate that it is strychnine. It’s too much of a coincidence otherwise and in my 30 years in this job I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said.

The vet said anybody whose dog might be affected should contact gardaí or a local vet to enable them to build a body of information to tackle the problem.

Keeping your dog on a lease at all times always helps in this situation. It's probably a good idea to keep away till they figure what or where this poisoning is coming from. Awful situation.

Yeah I heard that on radio kerry earlier. Hopefully it's just a mistake by park rangers or something. I'd hate to think some fool is doing this deliberately. Will have to change routes with the dog for a while anyway.

Doubt it's a mistake unfortunately, Strychnine has been banned since '91. Park rangers would never be that sloppy to go about indiscriminatingly putting down poison anyway. A few of the eagles which were reintroduced back into Ireland were also poisoned by Strychnine so it's looking like someone is doing it deliberately.

Dogs must be kept on a lead in the Demesne according to the National Park notices.

It is sad to hear of dogs becoming ill in this way but perhaps there are other explainations? Botulism from dumped material or rhodedendron for example?

Surely we'd have heard a story of people getting it if its one of these cases? Kinda worrying that it's happened in areas that are considered busy for people with dogs or even kids. Never have had my dog off the leash in the park, but this still scares me.

Great to see the Deenagh Lodge opened again for the season and so many people out enjoying the national park ..
And I think the first time I noted all dogs on leads today..so I think people are paying heed to the threat of poison...
maybe if the tests carried on the deceased animals return a positive for poisoning a notice should be erected informing locals and visitors to the park of such dangers ..keep the animals on leads..

If your referring to the concert venue, there's talk of it being located the fields just off the demense gates across from the Cathedral. If you go down by the river there, there's huge fields down that way.

It's going to be in the field behind Killarney House which has been under renovations for the last 18 months or so. It is up near the jarvey rank and across from the avenue hotel.
