If a sample was taken and he was over the limit why was he released without charge. Suddenly it becomes a case of why he was released over why he was drunk behind the wheel.

The gardaí pulled in to assist the male driver but another vehicle ploughed into the back of their patrol car. This caused the patrol car to 'rear end' the vehicle that had broken down and major damage was caused to both vehicles. The driver of the third car fled the scene but was arrested by gardaí from Monaghan town a short time later for alleged drink-driving.
A third vehicle then drove into the rear of the patrol car, causing the garda car to collide with the first vehicle. Both vehicles were seriously damaged in the incident. The driver of the third car fled the scene but was later arrested for alleged drink-driving. GSOC confirmed he was an off-duty garda.
One witness to the late night collision said: “They were very lucky they didn’t suffer more serious injuries”. “The Garda car was in bits with one tyre lying on the road. It could have been a lot worse. “Some gardai showed up and the road was closed for a while. The driver of the other car was arrested at the scene.”
The driver of the third car was arrested at the scene and found that he was an off-duty garda.
