Bikes on commuter trains

I recently got a job in Rush however the distance from the station to the job is a 45 minute walk but is 10 minutes by bike. Now I know the rules on bikes on commuter trains is 10am-3.30pm and then 7pm til trains finish on weekdays but do you think I could get away with bringing my bike on at Howth Junction and getting off at Rush/Lusk with it. Surely the train going in the Drogheda direction at that time of the morning isn't packed and I could fit a bike on it?

Going that direction in the morning space wise you should be fine, whether anyone will say anything to you is another story.

I think I should ok in that regard. Generally everyone is going in the other direction that time of the morning and there doesn't tend to be inspectors or security on the trains at that time either.

If it becomes an issue taking a full size bike you could get a fold up bike - a Brompton or Dahon - when the fold down and you have the cover on them they look like a bag, are fairly discrete and less likely to draw attention from rail staff.

I was thinking of that if I cant bring the regular bike on the train.

Fold down bikes were never a problem on trains its only the big bikes during the rush hour. If your travelling in the opposite direction of rush hour traffic like you said then you should be fine since theres no crowds in the direction your travelling.

Tomorrow is the day so hopefully everything goes ok. I don't want to have abandon the bike in Howth Junction locked up or be late on my first day.

Once its folded it doesnt matter if its covered or not.

There's always the risk you'll get a jobsworth. Not sure about IE but a couple of times on DB I was told I couldn't board with a folded Brompton. On both occasions it was just a case of swiping for the next bus.

A folded bike is allowed on peak time trains.

First week in the job and I'm having no problems getting the bike on the train. There is nobody working on the Kilbarrack side of Howth Junction/Donaghemede train station and when I get on the train in the morning and afternoon there is barely anyone on it.
