Nespresso compatible pods Lidl €1.99

I got the ristretto strength 10. Capsules are individually wrapped and aroma is great. The thing worked which is always a pleasant surprise with compatible pods. I ran it through as my usual tea cup coffee even though the box says lungo 100ml espresso 50ml ristretto 25ml. So this probably affected flavour but it was still good! Definitely good enough to forego trips to town/9e postage. Hurrah!

Thanks, that sounds like an advantage over the Lidl pods so, each of which comes in its own individual wrapper, which adds bulk.

The Lidl pods don't fit in those fancy Nespresso pod dispensers that you can buy, but it looks like these ones might.

They can't be too bad. All sold out in Aldi, Mahon in Cork. Well, apart from an open box of decaf!! Just in case anyone is thinking of heading there.

Yeah, in my experience they are flying off the shelves in both Lidl and Tesco too. Often sold out.

Looks like Nespresso made a big mistake in not at least selling some of their range in normal stores. It is ironic that the Tesco ones are actually as expensive as the Nespresso ones. Just goes to show that there was a big pent up demand for the simple convenience of buying them with your normal weekly shop.

Exactly. I'm nowhere near a Brown Thomas to pick them up and because of where I live and work can't get them delivered either. Have to get them delivered to my parents house and pick them up whenever I visit. Incredibly annoying compared to picking them up with the weekly shop.

Looking forward to trying the new Aldi ones. My GF will like they have decaf too.

What I want is Aldi's version of the Nespresso Machine https://www.aldi.com.au/en/groceries/coffee/

Gets great reviews and is dirt cheap compared to Nespresso machines, circa €50ish. Think they hope to bring it to Europe soon.

got a box of the 4 types . used 1 pod out of each box , in a nespresso lungo cup and they were complete piss water.
the rest are going in the bin.

Tried the intense, purple box. Tasted ok. Will do if I'm stuck.

Also to buy from nespresso is a lot of money especially when spending on coffee. The cheapest bundle is around 65e.

Near pay day these Aldi ones are very handy.

Realistically the amount of coffee a nespresso sized pod can contain is only enoigh to make 40ml. Lungo is supposed to be 110ml the lungo cup is 170ml to the top so easy to overfill.

Even With genuine nespresso capsules I would use 2 and top up with boiling water rather than over extract.

If you put that amount of water through a professional espresso machine with the same amount if grounds it would be piss.

I have no idea how nestle treat the coffee in the lungo capsules to make it tolerable with so little coffee so over extracted. Its not regular ground coffee.

Worse than the Lidl pods? I thought the Lidl ones tasted like instant, so these must be dire.

Have you tried the Lidl Ristretto ones? While not great for straight espresso, they are stronger and seem to work very well with Cappuccino, lattes and sugared Americanos.

Only read this thread this morning.......very remiss of me not to keep checking. Dying to get my mits on these Aldi pods. I'm reasonably happy with the Lidl ones, but love the fact that these are not individually wrapped. Off to check Aldi in Wexford! Tks for posting guys!

If you make the Aldi or Lidl coffee on an espresso setting and use 3-4 pods- its actually quite ok. I've just had 4 here now. A bit more bitter than I'd expect- but quite drinkable.

I'm not overly fussy about my coffee, and can manage bitter......so long as my coffee is strong, I'm happy. I do prefer the ones I get in France to the Lidl ones, but I just find getting the Nespresso ones a pain in the neck. I just want to pick up my coffee with my regular shopping.

Sounds like they are running off the shelves in Aldi - same thing happened with the Lidl ones at first, so hopefully things will settle down in Adi.

Spar have started selling their own pods now! (this is news to me).Saw them this morning, I think I've become trained to seek these things out. €2.00 ten pods. They don't look very appetising, sort of rough and ready packaging-little cardboard box, poor graphics.

Everyone seems to be selling there own branded ones now just waiting to the day you will walk into pennyes and they be selling there own branded pods LoL.

Another one that i am shocked dosint sell there own ones yet is TK Maxx ?

In all fairness- the Nespresso ones don't feature the world's most exciting packaging either- the bare cardbord box that the sleeves come in, isn't going to win any awards- and as for the sleeves themselves- the colours don't really reveal a lot about the contents (which if you're in a house with a few coffee drinkers who all have their favourites- can be an issue).

I reckon the Aldi ones cost me more than Nespresso- given we're using a few pods per cup- its just a lot weaker than the Nespresso ones........

I literally just came here to say that! And yes the packaging isn't very convincing nor is it easy to tell the difference between the different types.

While I haven't tried them yet, the Aldi ones look to have the best packing so far.

ok so you need 4 of the Aldi pods to get the equivalent of one Nespresso pod?

Isn't that a false economy (not just in cost of using 4 pods, but in the time involved) ?

4 to get the equivalent of 2 Nespresso pods.
I use the Bodum pyrex mugs that came with the machine- it takes 2 full cups dispensed to fill a mug. So- 4- instead of 2- and use the espresso setting instead of the cup setting.

There isn't the taste/flavour though- otherwise- they're a lot weaker than the Nespresso ones.
(I prefer the Livano one)

Which just goes to show the craziness of this whole situation! It isn't just about cheaper coffee, it is about convenience, people are clearly willing to pay Nespressos price, but they don't want the hassle of its very inconvenient selling model.

Had the Nespresso people been wise, they should have done a deal with Tesco, etc. to sell at least their top 3 variants in stores and I'm sure many people would have happily continued to buy official Nespresso pods, rather then 3rd party ones.

I think Nespresso will end up becoming a text book case on not how to do business!
