There's been a crazy number of threads recently looking for restaurant recommendations, so I'd like to start a specific thread for it. Please post below about your favourite restaurants - why you like them, what price range they are, what type of food they serve, if they have an early bird, opening hours if you know them, where they're located. If you could include a link to the website, that would be great. The more details, the better. This is not a thread to post negative reviews - there's a thread in the main Food & Drink forum for that if you like. Basically, I want this thread to be full of recommendations, not positive and negative reviews. That being said, you can disagree with a recommendation briefly if you really feel the need to, but you must have a really valid reason such as an awful experience, rather than "I don't really like the food" or "It's too expensive".

I know Ramen has been done to death here but i went last week to their ballincollig shol for the first time. Couldnt fault anything about it apart from the noise. It was about 530 when we got in and it was manic. I had the pad thai which id never had before and it was savage. The kids got the goujons with rice and a bit of sweet and sour. It was only €6 with a carton of fruice which was great value. My dad got the €6 before 6 which was a red marmasam curry and that was also pretty tasty.
I passed it a few days later and got the Rendang take away for my lunch in work and again it was really tasty. Bargain too as it was the €6 deal.
Been in twice and ive been impressed both times. Cant see myself going back to my usual chinese anytime soon.

Portions are small alright in greene's, but they always have been. That's their style i guess... Not a giant feed, but good quality.

I haven't been in years actually, last time was with my parents now that I think about it. Always picture it as being for an older crowd, the 50+ bunch. What was the age group like?

thats average for a glass of wine - but what was the wine? where was it from? quality etc..

Went there a few months ago - thought it was great really - think it was a bit dearer than 29 euro for three courses though ...
In fairness you'd spend 6.50 on vino in a pub -

thanks for that - the fish bar was booked out also in the end - and got no call about a cancellation.. another time..

It's not all sitting in a row, sporina, but the tables are high so the seats are stools or bench seating. I've been there with my mom, with friends and with my boyfriend so it can be intimate if you like. They usually only seat you at the bar or facing the window if there's only 2 of you.

if so, thats ok for an informal bite but not a dinner date..?

I find the waiting list works well as they are pretty good at calling you back if there are cancellations.

Was only there once. It does have a kinda cool vibe, but it is quite informal. Wouldn't be a bad date spot imo.

the menu would be nice but stools? and i think diners sit in a row as oppose to around a table - for those of you who have been there am i right?

if so, thats ok for an informal bite but not a dinner date..?

I read about it on tripadvisor last night and latest reviews are not good at all which is disappointing.

I think it's reasonable for the quality of the food served.

And in such a small place I think the no reservation thing works. You can stick your head in early to put your name down and go for a pint while you wait though.

Serendipity is gorgeous - just had lunch there a few weeks ago and the food was beautiful and very reasonably priced. Going there again on Friday! Would love to try it for dinner as well.

I've heard Bodega's Sunday Brunch is good too. Has anyone been? And where exactly is it??

On a side note. Went to Huguenot's Saturday night for a late birthday dinner. The meal was really nice. Had the scallops to start, followed by a confit duck. Himself had the Morceaux sausage, followed by the Poulet Bourguignon, which he pronounced delicious. Sides of Parmesan fries for him, and a Gratin Dauphinoise for me. Slightly disappointed by the Gratin, if I'm honest - thought it was a bit dry. Himself had the chocolate cake with raspberry sorbet, which he loved. I was stuffed at this point, and just had a glass of sherry and coffee.

Very nice meal all round, and nice ambience in the restaurant. We'll be back!!

Sunday Brunch is the new thing now !! All the rage in Dublin. Even have to book to ensure you get a seat for some places its so popular. Hopefully this will kick off in Cork now !!!

Went to The castle Café in Blackrock castle for Sunday brunch few weeks back - well recommend !

Iyers for lunch on Saturday, Sextant for brunch on Sunday. Both delicious!

I don't know why GULPD is on this list, we went into today and I personally would not go back. We asked for the wifi code but it did not work, it also has a sign saying that you can only work on a laptop for 20 mins at a time and when it is quiet! I am not a coffee drinker but I love trying different places for hot chocolate but here it was very milky and not hot at all, not to my taste, def more for a child. You pay 20c extra for a chocolate stick, maybe that's what makes it, I didn't go for it as €3 is dear enough. It was very noisy too and only one loo for everyone. Look, it wasn't my cuppa (pardon the pun), I think there are far better places to go to but I know that not all places have wifi.
