I'm on the extrovert side if ambivert.

I like being out in groups and meeting new people and going to new places would tend to mix with a few people and groups. How ever in saying that I do like a bit of time to myself. I go the cinema by myself and I like to recharge my social batteries.

Introvert. Of course it effects my lifestyle. I opt for activities that are solitary or involve one or two other people and avoid group activities. I find group interactions exhausting and crowded situations overwhelming.

My job is teaching at third level and I was good at presentations of research when I was involved in research. So I'm not significantly impeded by shyness or anything. It's more that I prefer straightforward logical interactions especially with people I don't know well. Reading subtle social and political aspects of interactions I find exhausting and often stressful or irritating. As I've gotten older I am more inclined to notice and address things like this directly which usually works well for me. For example if I notice something up in someone's body language I'll ask directly what it is. If I'm in a situation where it's inappropriate to ask something like that it will still bother me though. This is why I prefer straightforward logical interactions with people I don't know well.

I should comment that I do enjoy dicussing things logically with people I don't know, especially if they are intelligent. Therefore labelling myself introverted or extroverted is misleadingly simplistic, since I could be viewed as either. It's probably too simplistic to describe most people.

I think most people are a mix of the 2, I am anyway. I like talking to people, getting to know them but I'm really happy in my own company as well I'd like to think of that as independent rather than introverted though.

Me too, I want to live on a castle/mansion on a hill away from the humans. Extroverts aren't the worst, it's the ones that can't think for themselves and will state 'those are the rules' or 'that's the way it's always' been that particularly annoy me. Essentially though if you're an introvert you will lose out to extroverts in socially orientated fields unless you've got good empathy skills like Counsellor Troi who I would type as an introvert but she was regarded as competent because she was empathetic. It does indeed suck that due to the cult of personality and the sheer, overwhelming majority of extroverts that introverts are regarded with some degree of disdain.

It's a very simplistic way of dividing something as complex as human beings in my opinion. That said, I'm definitely an introvert. It doesn't bother me in the slightest staying in with a good book, game or film. I prefer meeting a small group of friends when I'm sociable rather than large groups of strangers so I generally avoid pubs, clubs and the like.

I Understand. I read somewhere that Introverts GIVE energy during social interactions, while extroverts ABSORB energy. Not usually into that sort of "vibe" thing, but it might explain why introverts feel exhausted after a few hours with people. While the extrovert feels re-energised.

Actually that seems to be a common thing for most introverts. Social interaction drains them where it would energize an extrovert.

Although I spend a list t of time through work, leading a team, lots of meetings, managing people.

So when I get some downtime, I'll gladly while the day away with no contact from others reading, listening to music, movies, cycling...all things you can do alone.

People can be exhausting.

Extrovert when I'm out, introvert when I'm in. Ambivert is a new word to me, but it sounds like that's what I am. I used to be particularly introverted and immensely shy in social situations until I got really angry that I was like that and trained myself not to give a sh1t about whether people liked me or not. As a result, I'll now say anything to anybody regardless of their social status, age, etc. (but with some filters! I'm not awful!) and can now chair meetings of 100 people odd. I'd have barely sat in a meeting with 100 people before. Amazing how we can change if we want to enough.

Introvert. I would gladly spend most of my day being alone. I hate meeting new people as I find it so awkward and uncomfortable. I get bored of big groups really quickly and prefer to be at home reading!
