Milk Price- Please read Mod note in post #1

Recently we saw three posters close their accounts over disagreements in the dairy threads. While there is a lot of frustration and discontent with current milk prices and the processing industry, the recent tendency for dairy threads to become tit-for-tat arguments isn’t tolerable for those not involved.

All farming sectors go through difficult periods and during such times there may need to be changes in how threads are moderated.

Dairy threads are going to be more closely monitored and subject to stricter moderation for a while.

To that end we won’t tolerate baiting of posters, constantly reviving old arguments, posters with agendas or crusading for a cause.

Whether it’s discussion of the business or politics of the dairy or other sectors, we expect civility and tolerance toward each other and other opinions as diversity of opinion is needed as a source of different ways of looking at a situation.

Also please be aware that what you may post as light-hearted banter can be read totally differently by someone adversely affected by the subject matter and evoke a reaction you hadn’t intended.

The ‘Off-Season’ forum, and its anonymous posting, is available for anyone to chat about their situation.

I was wondering would it be a help if we posted our milk prices. I would hope that if someone is low that help could be given, on the other hand if high perhaps your tips could help us all.

I would suggest posting your processors base inc Vat for comparison
Post your Nett price for others to help or be helped
I think that solids should be included.
I suggest any seasonal/liquid contract price be excluded or seperated.

I feel that we as farmers do a lot of bitching about processor prices and rightly so IMO. I also feel that we should not worry about it as we can do nothing about base price but we certainly do something about it at farm level.

What do you all think?

the other side of that coin is if for example cheese is making 2750 a ton that roughly translate into a milk price of 27 cent so there is no margin in that if milk price stays at 30 cent odd so that dosent make sense.coops are hoping we have reached a tipping point in the market and with smaller volumes are willing to risk it for a month or 2.bear in mind that milk processed today hits the market in 6 months.those heifers came cheap,you were lucky I wasn't in the yard id say:D

May or may not be the case, probably is but the reality is that bottom has been reached.

I for one am glad at last to hear some positive news. The news for the last few months has been more positive but people and particularly the FINDO don't want to report

.5c For 2014 will be paid this mth. Others will be front loaded into the early mths.

This is welcome news from Glanbia as it removes a lot if uncertainty and rumour. At least now we know the minimum position.

It took a while but I finally think we have well structured and funded co-op. the passing of the vote in Gowran and the strong performance of the Plc has us in a good place for some time to come

That as well as the tactical move for lads to pay there superlevy in summer months has insured lads won't cut too milk out of cows

Just over 32 vat inc,we're getting very dizzy looking down at rest of ye,unfamiliar but welcome position to be in ,how long it'll last if we start hamaeroging milk,something will have to suffer and we all know what that'll be....

Hard to see them surviving long term. There is a place for the plants processing at peak but it would probably make more sense to maximise the processing in the larger plants outside those 2 months.

Pretty much as is being done with November and December milk currently.

What was the reasoning behind the secret ballot (I don't understand any of the glanbia goings on) but it reminded me of the heave against charlie haughey ;-)
