Im suprised the garda even have a van this old tbh. Someone told me that all garda vehicles are taken of the road and crushed when they hit 300k miles but that could be completly wrong.

I know you can book any centre for a non visual retest. I wouldn't say a visual is any different. You could send a pm to nct tester on here to confirm

Speaking of service vehicles, I just passed a "Doctor" car in Ballsbridge with "Wicklow Rapid Response" on the side. The funny thing is it was on UK 57 plates. Weird.

Squeaky clean on the other side too. Fuel injector cleaning is next up. Process of elimination at this stage. I'll keep going until the problem is solved/mechanic is needed.

I have two. A Fluke (can't remember the model) which is the industry standard, therefore expensive and this which is a fleabay knock off, but a great one at that. I'd highly recommend it. Seriously, its a great yoke for the price.

Lumpy idle, crap MPG and she chugs away when you put the foot down. Its never cut out on me. No warning lights but haven't had it scanned either.

You can go cheaper again but you can't go wrong with that one. A friend of mine has my fluke one for the past year and a half. Haven't been too bothered getting it back off him because of the cheap yoke :pac:

Vacuum leak
Fouled MAF
Fouled 02 sensor.

They'd cause it to run rich.

I'd also suggest checking your ignition. Poor cumbustion from weak spark can cause a lot of these issue - and lead to the above in time.

Pollen filter is under the wiper blades, air filter is in a black housing.

Using their site, I did end up with the wrong air filter for the Rav4 (the left being the one it actually took, and the right being the one they sent out).

Hopefully not a repeat of that, though. Fingers crossed you'll be right and I am just not familiar enough with the Focus filters. My initial impression is that they're a tad oversized though

Ah yeah, I'm familiar with where they go (apparently some Focus' don't have a pollen/cabin air filter? And instead Ford sent it out with an empty plastic 'crate' blocking where you'd put it? Is this true for Ireland or just the US? (I only seen it mentioned on US forums, etc.).

If I open this up and there's no pollen filter, and it's not had one since it left the showroom, that'd be a pretty poor reflection of any of the mechanics who've had this car over the years.. (assuming it came without a filter in the first place).

Fluke stuff is very good although I suppose unnecessary unless your using them all the time. We have a standard enough fluke meter that my dad bought a few years ago although it only does voltage and continuity no current which is a pain. I have one of them fluke voltage pen testers and they are a seriously handy yoke I have it left in the glove box all the time. Although it wouldn't be very useful for car electrics. The meter you linked looks good as an all round one.

In other news found my dads old Tom tom sat nav lying around the house it's not that old but he has a new one so I get his old one. I connected it up to the computer and it seems to be all updated so will be a handy yoke to have not that it will be used too often. Might use it on my trip to dublin airport tomorrow even though I do know the way

Gotta be fluke if someone else is paying haha. They used to use fluke one place I worked,then some manager decided to save money. I was new and ended up with a toy of a thing. Cost em more in the long run I'd say with time and money I spent fuelling it with batteries.

I had and still have a better Tenma one at home for general use.

Absolutely, decent tools pay in the long run.

Megger are also a decent brand, they're better known for their test equipment but you'd pick up a decent Megger multimeter for less than 100 euro. Well worth the money.

Tenma 72-7725 just over the €25 min order for free delivery from Farnell. Do fine for general use I'd say. Couldn't justify a fluke for personal use. Although those pen testers for live mains are handy as bpmull mentioned.

edit - min order is only €20 for free next day delivery. There is a slightly cheaper Tenma without the temperature measurement. Either one ten times better than the toy I was given to use day in day out in a previous employment.

You don't need a good one to measure 12v or continuity.
You only need a good one when the difference between 5.2v and 5.18v means something working or not
