I used to drink a lot of coffee, but it caused some serious problems. When I nuked it, it took about 2 weeks for me to get anything bordering on normal sleep.

The massive amount of coffee was basically multiplying the impact of stress. I had lumps across my stomach for 18 months and inflammation along my breast bone. Scans and cameras could find nothing. Turned out that I needed a counsellor and to stop drinking coffee. The lumps on my stomach disappeared about 2 days after I stopped drinking coffee.

Ah Dregin go away!!

I frickin love coffee...and I mean love it. I only drink 3 to 4 cups a day mind you. I'd even drive from Terenure to 3FE to get a fix. Two Fifty Square in Rathmines is class also!!

Never mind sleep - I can drink a cup of coffee 5 minutes before getting in to bed and I will be out in minutes.

Proper coffee. The guy who started it up is one of the worlds best baristas. When they were in twisted pepper I thought they had a real cool thing going for the right reasons, now it's a bit of a hipster cliché but the coffee is undeniably good. Go in there and try an espresso. The stuff is black, oily gold. No sugar needed even if you're a sweet tooth. A flat white or macchiato is always good too. I usually pop in when I cycle over to the RDS for a sly one.

The place in twisted pepper now, vice coffee, is equally good and their service is great.

I'm a big fan too, and I agree I find it the most addictive thing ever. But I usually knock it on the head a few times a year, like if I do a preseason training course of just looking to clean the nutrition up. I almost never drink it on training days as I find it unbalances your energy levels.

Do you drink it black? Easiest way to come off it is weening yourself I find. Drink black coffee, filtered if you can, and drink it with plenty of water. Day by day add more water to the coffee to dilute it. Eventually you'll stop wanting that heavy kick and you'll find water will hit the spot just fine. It can take a week or two. I'm doing that right now actually! Try not to replace it with sugar either, your body will want sugar to spike insulin to get the same rush but try to avoid it.
