Head-wrecking 3D Secure / MasterCard SecureCode - Keep forgetting them! (Just me?)

For the umpteenth time, I have just locked myself out of my credit card security code.

Does anyone else find these codes really difficult to remember or is my brain starting to fail me?

I'm pretty sure the problem is that the credit card company prompts you to setup a password when you're in the middle of a transaction and you end up setting something so clever that you'll never remember it (and they bar you from using anything that you've used before and put in all sorts of capitalisation and numeric digit requirements)

I'm getting a bit fed up with it though as I just keep locking myself out!

Anyone else? Or, has my brain finally turned to mush?

Takes about two minutes to reset it or thirty seconds to ring them up. Annoying alright, but like a lot of things, easily remedied if you keep the head cool.

Don't try and remember them. Let 1password or a similar app do it for you. There's LastPass too.

Never had a problem with it. Though it is annoying having to spell your password out on your fingers so you can work out the 3rd, 7th and 12th characters of it.

I don't know why they can't just use 2-factor authentication with your mobile or something remotely sensible and modern!

I would agree there, I have abandoned a few transactions due to it.
One of my banks has this ridiculous enter the 1st 9th and 13th digit setup too which is even more frustrating.

I'm slightly dyslexic at times and quite honestly, I have to write the password down and count the digits. Otherwise, I just keep locking myself out. It's really frustrating and actually genuinely does put me off using the card (probably no bad thing).

Maybe it is just me though!

In one office I worked at they'd this policy of continuously changing network passwords, so you you had to keep resetting your logon every Monday morning and couldn't use any password that contained your previous passwords and had to include various random non-alphanumeric chars.
I locked myself out every Monday and could never remember the password (you were also banned from writing it down).

Anyway, I got my P45 handed to me after 4 weeks and they accused me of deliberately trying to get out of working on Mondays as the IT dept would take a good 20 mins to reset.

Stupid job anyway!

It should take IT about 7 seconds to reset your password!

I have finally settled on a via password I remember, I had reset it so many times before this one. I hope it doesn't expire or I'm fecked.

I never remember, I just automatically click on the 'forgot your password' link and set up a new password everytime it asks me to.

The problem is that most transactions don't require them, and the interval between being asked for the code is so long that you've forgotten your password.

Here's a good method of creating a password that's hard to guess but easy enough to recall. Pick a book, any book at random & flick to a random page (obviously won't work with Kindles). Pick out either the first or last sentence on that page, provided it contains at least a number of words that is equal to the minimum number of characters required by the password. Then take the first letter of each word & use those as the password. You can add a number to the code if necessary. Then just memorise the sentence, far easier than a jumble of letters. If you think you might still forget it just write down an abbreviation for the book & the page number somewhere. It will mean nothing to anyone but yourself.

Last year when I was buying concert tickets that I knew would be in high demand I rang avant card before hand to make sure i had this sorted. Said goodbye to them and their extortionate 24% last week- thank god

Was trying to buy tickets online last week and I got the Verify code for my AIB debit, thing was there was nowhere to enter a pw or set one up when i went to the AIB Verify page- just rang up in the end

Honestly, it wasn't worth it! It was a rather horrendous call centre job when I was in university that was better off ditching

I don't know what I did to Avant Card, but I seem to get a good rate! 24% is pretty crazy tho!

You should threaten to leave regularly, that's how I deal with them

That happened to me with Irish Rail the other day. I couldn't get the AIB Verified by Visa frame to load.

I'm pretty sure though with a bit of effort the banks could make this a lot easier.

Like, why can't you use the Google Authenticator for example or some other code-generator app? It's worrying that the security on my Facebook account seems significantly better than my credit / debit cards.

was actually 22.9% at the end having gone up about 8% last year. Customers were told they could pay it or settle their a/cs in full! They had the cheek to offer me 6 months at a lower rate to stay with them after all that. lower rate was 19%, even that is above most other card providers.
It's all a rip off, visa debit for me from now on

On a related note - to access my credit card online I have to reset my password every time, I know what my password is but I can't remember my username - the change password / username function only allows you reset your password.
You can possibly change it once inside, using the password I've just changed to my existing password
