25 years old , 110 should i stay in Ireland

What's happening AH

Long story short i'm 25 years old Male, my father died recently i got left his life savings (he had no property) of 28k and added to my life savings so i now have 110k and i'm getting sick of Ireland.

I only socialize once or twice per week so i'm not after an all out binge for a year, a career is important to me aswell.

I have an " ok " job, on 26-28k, single and no kids

Should i stay or should i go ( In talks with estate agent about buying property but i have itchy feet, very cold and itchy feet )

Do you want to travel ? Is there a yearning there to see something else. I suppose getting to the whats bugging you first would be a good idea.

As you say you have a half decent job?

Is it just jesus this money is burning a hole in my pocket?

If so then save a bit more and buy a nice place for yourself. Live in it set some goals. Maybe go to college advance yourself. Lets say by 30 you have a nice pad. You have a Degree you can then shoot off and let the nice pad pay for the travels.

Leave all the other nonsense aside and decide what your reasoning is for this first.

I'd give another country a go, at least for a little while e.g. 6 months and see how you get on.

Why not take 30k and travel for a year or two.
The 80 will be in some investment account for the time and hopefully you'll make a few quid back.

You have only one life so fill it with adventure..oh and lots of sex with Foreigners

I'd be off to Antarctica if I had that cash...before it's bought by Shell.

Why not indeed? Still if you're going to invest, there's no harm in doing so from somewhere where the cost of living is lower. You could retire for that amount of money in some parts of the world.

The Shetlands are considered as offshore. A new gas plant has just been built and excavator and dumper drivers were being paid approx stg£16 per hour for an 80 hour week. You work every day for a minimum of 3 weeks. Food, accommodation and travel to the mainland is paid for. All you need money for is your phone (wifi was available too.

Labourers were probably paid less, electricians, welders and other trades were on good rates. Health and safety officers can make 300 per day. If you don't go nuts on the ol' coke and hookers on your week off, pretty easy to save serious money.

The OP has clarified it's due to working offshore though, so that makes sense, but it wouldn't be possible to save that kind of money with a run-of-the-mill job by 25.

No-brainer IMO - go.
Not everyone is into going travelling in their 20s (I wasn't) but some people really want to, and it's the only time to do it (early 30s max.) if you want a career, your own home etc, so just obey that voice telling you to - it's your only chance; you WILL regret it, if you deep down want to do it now.
If it doesn't work out, you can come home after even a few weeks, and then get cracking on the mortgage.

It's not like the olden days where you simply wouldn't be able to afford to travel back in the opposite direction you came from, or would be lucky to live the voyage over and chancing a return would be pushing your luck. Give it a bash. If you don't like it come back. No biggie.

It really isn't bad at all. I am being educated for free, my daughter is in childcare paid partly by the grant and partly by the college. I don't have to pay any of it. I have never been on any benefits so that isn't even the reason I get help! It's just means tested, as everything should be.

One day (hopefully) I will be In a good job and the thought of the tax I pay helping someone to make their life better will make me happy.

The thoughts of it helping dole beggars who could get educated for free instead of sit on their ass won't but hey ho, you can't have it all.

It's not that difficult in the right circumstances. I am 19 and live at home and currently work a minimum wage job. I get around €300 a week. Taking into account that I have no real bills or expenses, I could fairly easily save €200 a week and still have €100 a week do treat myself, etc. That would lead to savings of over €10,000 in a year. The OP said they worked off-shore so I'd imagine they were earning more than minimum wage. It's very doable given circumstances like mine.

In saying that I'm ****ing broke and haven't a cent saved.

Objectively speaking, Ireland's not bad - could be better in some ways, is great in other ways. Compared to an actual dictatorship, Ireland is paradise.

I am Fluent in German so I might visit Germany for awhile, that or Switzerland.

Australia or Canada does not appeal to me, if i wanted to see piss3d up Irish people i'd just go to my local

All these posts saying he's talking sh!te for saying he's saved 82k. As he said, he worked offshore (either a rig or ship i assume if so, then its possible. Ive seen it being done. I train people to work offshore here in Aberdeen, and no you don't need 5-10 years experience as someone mentioned. You either need: (a) the right qualifications or (b) know the right people.

Back around 2006 i made over 65 k on a winning streak in little under 5 weeks, went and traveled the world and lost some back.
Remember blowing 10k at blackjack at a casino in Canada, was in bed for days after that, then just spent the remainder on travel drink women and the odd bit of illegal highs.
Easy come easy go is my way of thinking.
