Castles for rent and my own services.

Pretty much wondering if anyone has any recommendations of castles in Ireland that you can exclusively rent or rent part of for a wedding, where I would be free to hire my own caterers and music and decorate myself. It doesnt have to be approved for a civil ceremony as we are happy to do registry and were happy to look anywhere in Ireland as the wedding will be small.

Www.ballyportry.ie is a place outside corofin. It looks beautiful inside. I went to see it & price seems good. Not the wow factor of the other 2 on the outside (no big entrance) & I couldn't see parking but you could ask.

My friend had her reception at Glenart Castle in Co. Wicklow, she definitely brought in her own decor and catering.

There is lots of them Blackwater Castle in Fermoy too.. Having ours there this year and well we have free reign over everything

Not castles but you can hire your own people and maybe cheaper;

Borris house Carlow,
Lisnavagh house, Carlow.
Trudder Lodge, Wicklow.
Mt Druid, Westmeath.
Glebe house, Meath.
Glendalough house, Wicklow.

Thanks sweetie, it doesn't actually have to be a castle, guest houses or just houses are fine! Was looking at Mt. Druid and it seems fantastic, but very hard to get info off their site!

I wonder if anyone here has got hitched in Mount Druid, we kinda looked into it aswell and some of the reviews online were not too great but maybe they have sorted it out by now..

I've only worked there but it would be a place I'd like to attend a wedding.
Similarly most of the other are really cool places that you can arrange everything to your own taste including Lisnavagh where we had our wedding.

I'd recommend a day where you arrange three or four visits to some of the venues you like and get a feel for them.

Yeah, originally we were looking at Darver Castle, but after a massive family bust-up in each of our families, we've been able to whittle the numbers down to probably 50 tops between us both :P Darver requires a minimum 120 people, so we thought some sort of catered event would be cheaper and more practical. We still want the big day, but would probably be happy to do a registry office with just witnesses and a "blessing" or introduction party afterwards. Main concern is having a venue we can book out that has room for eating, licence for drinking and space for dancing that has at least some form of accomodation on-site and something suitable nearby for extra guests.

Clogan castle is very cool too.

I was in Lough Cultra and blown away but very high end.

Mount Druid you can only use their caterers. Can only view on a Tuesday and Thursday too during office which is a pain.

I loved Mount Druid when I viewed it but it's very expensive and there aren't very many toilets which put us off because of older wedding guests. Their packages don't include wine either. It looked amazing and I would quite like to be a guest there for a wedding, but for my own wedding i couldn't justify the cost given what you get!

We've just come across a place in Clones that looks amazing! Got quoted a pretty good deal for 40 guests, so holding out for a deposit and then going to take a look to be sure!

We looked at Cloghan Castle. Its gorgeous, and a bit unusual. The reason for no kids, I believe, is the water out front. There are a few rooms in the place, but local accommodation seemed like it would have been an issue. We were quoted (this time last year when we were looking) €4-5k.
Lough Cultra was closer to €8k as I recall.

Both of those were just for venue rental - all catering would have to be outsourced.

We viewed Mt Druid too and I loved how quirky it was. Luckily we viewed it on a wet day and it was just dangerous in spots. I went flying on the decking down by the lake house as it was very mossy. I would prefer it for a hen or stag than the actual wedding but then it is too expensive for either.
Glad you might be sorted though OP.
Another place I was eyeing was Kilsharvan near Duleek in Meath but their info is terrible and very slow to return emails.
But there is an unconsecrated chapel onsite that would be fab for a ceremony.
Pricey too!

Just thought of Loughcrew House in Oldcastle in Meath too,would def be worth a look if you're not going with the other place.
