Just like ye're opinions on this one. Do ye think an hours commute each way daily is too much? 35 miles each way? Plan would be for Sept to May for 2 years? Thats 350 miles pw, not taking into consideration weekends. Doable? Any of ye do something similar

I even enjoy the drive I must say!

Easily doable imo, my commute used to be 1-2 hrs in the morning and 1.5-2.5hrs in the evening.. was fairly bearable, good tunes & 2400w of sounds got me through it :pac:

That's easily doable. Sure a lot of people spend that stuck in traffic doing a couple of miles. Stereo on and you're there before you know it.

Obviously everyone is different, but I wouldn't be too keen to be adding 2 hours on to each working day (if i had the choice not to). Assuming you're working a standard 8 hour day, that bumps you up to 10 hours, adds fuel costs and dilutes your 'per hour' wage.

Unless you're getting paid enough that they work out as 'paid' hours.

That's just me though. I think I'd end up getting annoyed and thinking of all the other stuff I could do with those 2 hours (head to the gym, for example.. something i know i wouldnt actually do if i had the 2 hours free, but still!)

That said, to each their own. I've never really had any kind of lengthy commute to work (except doing photography where I'm moving around a lot, obviously, but I enjoy that cos I'm always going to different places) so maybe it's not as bad as I think.

I do approx 60k km each way daily Kells-Dublin, little over 50 mins each way taking her handy.
Certainly doable, get a nice daysul with cruise control (if it's motorway) air con and a 6 speed 'box you won't be screwed on fuel that way. I regularly see 60+ mpg out of my golf.

Takes a bit of getting used to almost 2 hours extra per day of just driving. But I've adjusted, took a couple of months but now I enjoy the commute as relaxation almost. Just me, a motorway, and the radio!

Have to be honest, I'm not really mad about either of those (appearance wise). There's a nice Forester there that looks nice, but it's a 2011 and twice what I'd like to be spending.

I appreciate the suggestions though.

Also hoping to give a commercial a shot this time (da chape tax, laaads) cos I rarely ever have passengers in my back seats and I like jeeps (but don't like the private tax that accompanies them).

If it keeps coming down then I'd say in about a month or so you will be seeing that.
Every weeks pumps.ie has a lower average price.

i do a commute 70 miles each way (90 minutes in time), nearly 700 miles a week. it's absolutely fine once you are firm with yourself about getting up early so you aren't going to be trying to claw back 5 or 10 minutes on the drive out.

other than that it's ok. not as tiring as you'd imagine, bring a bottle of water to keep you fresh and it's all good.

and while i'm here, is there anything i should be aware of while driving without a back box for a day. it sheared off yesterday (UK import car, 15 year old pipe, it just had enough) and the motor factors wont have a new one until tomorrow afternoon. i just bolted off the remaining bits and pieces and am driving with nothing after the mid section.

i'm depending on the car so i have to drive it. is there any concern to driving without it (safety/ fire etc)? aside from sounding like ken block and melting the ice caps.
