Ah God be with the days! I was living near Shannon in those days and spent many a happy carefree afternoon parked by the perimeter fence near runway 24 in my VW Beetle with my airband radio, binoculars and a 35 mm Olympus camera.

Aer Lingus, Panam, TWA, Northwest Orient, Aeroflot, Nationair, Capitol, Overseas National, maybe the Aer Turas CL-44 or the DC-8 might drop in.

Flying Tigers & Seaboard World Airlines DC-8s were a common sight too.

The BEA Trident or 1-11 would arrive around midday from LHR (Speedbird 834 and depart as Speedbird 835) Happy Days indeed

Some feckin' moron (in the left seat) decided it would be fun to have his camera on a selfie stick (which I think should be an IQ indicator,hates those things) sticking out the window for takeoff. He wasn't enough smart enough to cover up his stupid grinning face.
