So UTV Ireland is launching on January 01, 2015 with a proper launch of its schedule on January 5.... It's now November 10 and no advertising online, in magazine, newspapers, billboards etc for programmes and launch.

No news on whether it will be on Saorview... probably one of the worst channel launches in history?

The Chase is another example of a show having a different time slot so I think it's something they will be doing a bit.

The marketing campaign is in full swing now on billboards and buses in central Dublin (and elsewhere, I should imagine!)

It doesn't state on Digiguide regarding episode or series. The same for Doc Martin.

Nothing regarding the schedule on their own site, entertainment.ie has UTV NI schedule for the next 7 days, and tvguide.co.uk has nothing for UTVi.

The first 5 days are available to view through the Sky guide. It seems very similar to UTV NI with the exception of no Good Morning Britain, UTV Live, ITN News, ITV Nightscreen, sporting events and a different selection of movies.

X Factor will still be on TV3 till 2016, so possibly they may lose that once the contract is up.

On the other hand, TV3 have replaced Emmerdale and Coronation Street with regular doses of 'Nothing to Declare', 'The Lie' and ''Renovation Nation'.

This is an absolute disaster losing UTV on UPC. That's essentially all Sports on ITV lost. UPC subscribers are gonna go crazy when they find out what's going on.

And yet, bizarrely we will still keep ITV 2, 3 and 4.

It's a spill over. Can't say ITV would be all too happy with that.

Probably not. But just wait for the barrage of abuse UPC will get when people will try to watch Champions League, Rugby World Cup, England qualifiers and FA Cup matches.

In the first two cases we'll be forced to put up with TV3s awful coverage. In the second two, we will completely lose out on coverage. All ITV ITN programming lost too. Awful.

And what are we gaining ?. Pat bloody Kenny. Jesus.

On the latter point do you really expect a "national" station to be carrying national news from London (ITN)?

I have UPC and we won't be missing much tbh. Champions league is covered on the Irish channels anyway.

The FA Cup is already gone, the Champions League will be gone in June, the RWC is adimittaly a blow but we would have lost the matches on ITV4 anyway and we'll still have access to it on TV3. That leaves England qualifiers, for which there are no Irish rights holders. Ironically thanks to the other UEFA deal Irish viewers who subscribe to Sky Sports will be able to watch the qualifiers of almost any other nation in Europe except for England.

Yes that was a massive mistake - one for which actually made him leave RTÉ but it doesn't make him a bad broadcaster ... you have to remember he was told of that tweet by someone in the production team.

.. and ITV4 (via other channels) is there too, free to air, with no sport blocked.

The source of the tweet was not who it purported to be - the contents of the tweet (that he'd facilitated moving cash from Morgan to FF) were true.

Morgan himself went on TV, but on UTV as it was during the moratorium, to confirm this.

Gallagher dug his own hole with two things - using the dirty word ("envelope") and then going on a character assassination (albeit telling the truth) about someone who he'd just admitted associating with.

I'm just surprised and somewhat disappointed that in numerous short film profiles of different national attractions and film footage of certain counties, I have not yet seen any film footage from Cork City or County (Ireland's largest county and 2nd city), Limerick, Galway, Waterford and so on! If places like Cork, Limerick, Galway etc; will have UTV Ireland news bureaus one would think you would showcase these county profiles too or am I missing something here?

I keep seeing the same film footage as we get closer & closer to launch night (now less than 48hrs away) Dublin City Centre, Skerries Co. Dublin, Clare, Donegal, some attraction in Tipperary, Boyne Valley Bridge in Co. Meath and a scene not all that typical from Killarney over and over again. I would be curious about some of the choices used and repeated over and over again rather than adding fresh material from more counties along with more of our national attractions throughout the Republic of Ireland. Some strange choices and so far I'm not impressed as we get closer to launch as this feels like it will be just another station that does not give a damn about other cities/counties in the regions of Ireland. We are used to RTÉ not always giving adequate in-depth coverage and/or low priority or token coverage in terms of some big local events from outside Dublin and I fear that UTV Ireland will replicate this type of policy too. I hope I am wrong as we need at least one national broadcaster to focus on the regions for a change as Dublin is already very well catered in my view.

I'd imagine the costs of acquiring content for it were probably key to what was selected - any pre-existing HD landscape footage going cheap is what I imagine the comissioning spec was. I wouldn't expect any changes at all to what's currently running.

I remember a while back seeing UTV's MD on Twitter saying there is more scenes on the way .. To be fair to UTV, they haven't even launched here yet - maybe give them a month to see if more arise.

A couple of articles today in the Indo and Times both saying the same thing that TV3 will not really have that much to worry about and that RTE will face more competition from UTVIRL. Anyway time will tell as to whether they will be right or not.

Out of interest can you add UTV Ireland under 'other channels' on a Sky HD box? If so do you know what the parameters are for it?
