Done that, still had the barrier decide not to rise the odd occasion.

I remember when the road first opened the barrier was on steroids/viagra, it would rise in less than a second!

Yes, the red X and arrow would mean divert to the regular lane, but I had already been given the green arrow and by the time the red and orange came on I was focusing on the gate and didn't notice them come back on.

Also, it looks faster on camera.

looked at it again...there was a keep left symbol up on approach and this turned into a 50 km/h sign and the green arrow went to a keep left arrow.... some problem there alright.... I'm guessing you need to watch the signs and do as they tell you

I use the M4 regularly. I think it has slowed down but you're warned by the flashing speedo if you're going too fast, go through at 50 and there's no issues.

M8 toll did this for me before and I think it was because I was going too fast. In case anyone from the NRA is reading......the M4 kinnegad toll is dangerously slow to open aswell so I just go to the normal gate. Limerick tunnel toll seems to works 50% of the time and you have to crawl through for it to work. M1 toll 'sometimes' has 2 barriers, one after the other which is pointlessly dangerous as people don't expect it.

i'm no expert on these things, but doesn't the red light coming on with the orange keep left arrow mean there's a problem and you should divert to the normal gate? How fast were you going? looked fairly rapid to me

I've struck the barrier (toll error not mine, barrier dropped as I was just getting to the gate, not following any other car*) :pac: ... right in the middle of the wind-shield, not that big a deal really, it just bounced off..

The system is flawed yes, but most of the time the problem is not the system but the users, cars follow too close behind or going too fast and just parking at the barrier (which I personally think is stupid behaviour - the barrier didn't work, go left and use the normal toll gate, it'll read the card the same way)

I've often gotten through a toll booth faster by using the regular toll gate.

I think one of the 2/3 cars following behind me was too close effectively cancelling my green arrow and causing the barrier not to rise.

It doesn't excuse the fact that this system is dangerous.

Good idea in general but I'd rather err on the side of caution, a few bad folks would drive black Mercs in Limerick and my car is pretty conspicuous should they try to find it or me later on to teach me a lesson.

Not saying this wasn't just some dozy driver, but again, I'd rather not take the chance.

Driving back from Waterford on the m9 lastnight and some ****wit was towing a car on the motorway with a bit of rope.

While the front car had hazards the car being towed was totally dark.

I see this a lot here in Warsaw, they have a law that lights must always be on 24 hours a day.
One day I was coming home and there was this women completely oblivious to the fact she had no lights on and she wasn't driving slowly either.
Pulled up along side her and gave her a few beeps of the horn, looked at me with what seemed like hatred and mouthed something and continued on.
There are a few pedestrian crossings on this road so I tried in vain to get her to turn them on before she killed someone.
Got along side her a few more times but still wouldn't turn them on. Came to a set of lights and I got ready to get out of the car and let her know. What did she do? Gave me the finger and turned off somewhere else.
Gave up at that point.
Never a fcuking policeman when you need one.

All it proves is that people cannot read road signs, are impatient and cannot keep junctions clear. Which is what causes arguements and horn blowing.
And yes I do know the junction very well as I could easily pass through it several times a week, sometimes several times a day. And have done for decades in its various different layouts.
