After some sage advise from Krusty, I've decided to dip my toe into the training log pool.

My 12 month objective is to crack a sub 3, but my immediate objective is to run a 3.05 -3.07 in Seville in February.

I've done a few marathons and did Valencia a couple of weeks ago as a training run (fantastic event by the way), and I've started a 12 week McMillan running program last Monday.

I'll try to post here as frequently as possible and would appreciate any feedback proffered.

3 sessions completed so far;

1. 30 min warm up followed by, 22, 30 second strides with 1 min recovery run at between 5k and 1 mile race pace. 15 min cool down jog

2. 70 mins easy run

3. 50 min easy run

Have done nothing over the last few days except eat and catch up on some sleep.

Back with a plan starting from today, so it's time to push the chocolate bars away and get serious.

My treat your body like a temple of doom approach for the last couple of weeks has left me feeling lethargic and cranky. My belly has also distended to the extent that on this mornings run I felt like I was moving like a hobby horse!

Today called for 6 miles easy. I got out in the dark and drizzle before 7am and wobbled along very slowly. The pace was closer to recovery pace at over 9.20 but I'm not too bothered as it's the first run back.

This week has me easing back into things but I may do a 5k race to blow out the cobwebs at the weekend. It'll be slow and not pretty but it's probably badly needed

Total 6 miles very easy.

Today the plan called for another Nursing Home special, not that my flabby self was complaining! 4 miles at recovery pace.

Am over in Manchester staying in what can only be described as a giant shoe box, out near Newton Heath. Some difference in accommodation in the space of a week!! Ran along the Oldham road and although it was fairly cold it was crisp and dry. Glad to be back running to a plan, did it a little quicker than usual in 8.48 average.

Off to Old Trafford, with the young lad tonight

Got back into Galway ftom Manchester, earlier this afternoon, still slightly frozen from an evening at Old Trafford. We had great seats right behind the goal and had access to the International suite.

Not exactly my thing but the young lad had a blast.

Today the plan called for 7 miles steady.

Got out around 5 this evening and ran around Salthill, Newcastle and the prom.

Didn't feel entirely comfortable starting, the lungs were grand but the body felt uncomfortable in a carrying a two stone bag of spuds way! Thought I was tipping along ok till the watch beeped for the first mile, 8.32, sweet mother of god!!! Surprised but not too bothered. Decided not to go bolobas chasing the time and just kept going. There were very few people out along the prom and a lamppost frightened the ****e out of me by talking to me, seems like there must be some new audio system installed along the prom coz it told me to bag my dog litter FFS, lucky someone didn't need to come along with a fire shovel and black bag to clean up after me

Towards the end of the run I cut down a lane way near Pearce Stadium where there were a couple of young wans smoking. When I ran by one of them said, and I kid you not, "Jezus your man has a better arse than me!!".

I couldn't see which one said it but if I was to hazard a guess it would have been the big one with the glasses

Paces were all over the place tonight and I've entered a 5k at the weekend that's goona be ugly!

Early start this morning as I was over and back to London in the day. Meetings in Central London meant that I had to use the tube. I haven't been on it in months and I'd forgotten how bananas it is during rush hour. The trains were packed and it's like being in a tubular tin sweat box. Every second fecker was coughin or snottin, I'd probably be exposed to less germs in a chemical weapons lab! I was sweating so much the suit pants were sticking to me like cling film.

A quick London travel tip, never stand stationery on the left on the tube station escalators, from the expletives coming from the not so orderly queue forming behind me I think it's a capital offence

Landed in Dublin after nine and wasn't really feeling the love for the planned easy 6 miler. I'd probably covered a HM between all the escalators, elevators and travelators I was on today but once I got to the hotel I slowly got into the gear and headed up the canal from Stephens Green. It was after 10 by the time I got going and there were a fair few Xmas revellers (piss heads) out on the streets. As I was approaching a bar (I think it's called the Odeon) there was a lad facing me pissing in the middle of the path! As I got closer I could hear him roaring in a thick Kerry accent "the Killarney steak is out, the Killarney steak is out"!!! It must have been a minute steak coz although I wasn't looking particularly hard all I could see was steam

Took a wide berth to avoid a golden shower!

Beautiful crisp and dry evening for a run with hardly a puff of wind about. Glad I got it done it ended up been enjoyable.

Got 6 miles easy in @ 8.18 pace.

Interested to hear your approach regards Boston. Is the plan to train for it as you you would any other marathon or will the plan take into account the unique profile of the course? If you know what I mean!

Hey DR,

How's it going, I think the plan will involve workouts that would be specific to the Boston course profile. Doing MPM on hills was mentioned. We are trying to work on getting me a bit quicker over shorter distances durning the next few weeks before tackling Boston. Meeting Ecoli tomorrow so I'll ask him and post back on here.

Plan today called for 6 miles easy.

Met up with Ecoli in the PP earlier this morning for this one. He must have been really cold after our last easy run coz he turned up with enough gear on for a polar expedition! Nice cool and crisp morning for it although there was a small bit of a wind that added to the chill.

Did a loop taking in the north road and Farmleigh and we ended up with 6.6 miles at 7.48 pace.

Happy enough the way the body has responded to getting going again so soon after the last cycle. I'm doing a 5 k Sunday but with no expectations or pressure just reacquaint the body with a bit of faster stuff.

I can't do the Tom Brennan so I've entered the Fields of Athenry 10k on Stephens day instead and I'd like to give that a good lash.

Meno if you're about, the race is on for the sub 3 honours

Haha it's a clash of the Tallaght coaches. A cranky aul old school coach and a young buck with his new, modern, fancy methods (i.e. he has actually read some coaching books

Sat: the plan called for another nursing home special but I felt like crap and took the day off and spent the afternoon reading about Boardsies racing exploits.

Today: plan called for a 5k race.

With all the PB trains departing Waterford and the PP yesterday I thought I'd hitch up my recently acquired carriages to the TbL freight train and chug my way around Carnmore to a 5k PB. Although I know I'm not in good shape, my current very soft PB is 19.3x that I ran 3 days after the Conn race directors marathon in April, I thought that this should be a handy target.

It was nice and dry but chilly and the number pick up and the race start were about half a mile apart which I wasn't expecting so I got cold on the slow trundle to the start.

The race itself is a bit of a blur and it seemed to go by in a blink of an eye but not in a good way.

The only way to describe my race is shocking and not shocking in a B horror movie kinda way, where you're kinda waiting for it, but rather shocking in the Crying Game sorta way, like, what the fcuk!!!!

Off the top of my head the splits were 6.09, 6.28, & 6.23 to finish up with a 19.54

Legs felt grand but lungs were having none of it.

I've run some faster miles at the end of 20 mile LSR's only a couple of weeks ago.

Probably the kick up the arse I need and at least I know where I'm at. I'll expect a big improvement from myself at the Fields of Athenry 10k on Stephens Day.

No bother to you TbL - good to get a run out over the shorter distance, I'd bet you'd run a completely different race with even a couple of weeks good training under the belt

I found it a bit blustery and it took it's toll on me... Or maybe thats my excuse

Was eyeballing around to see anybody with a swarm of hotties around them afterwards, but alas, you were probably gone home

I'm book in for Athenry 10k for a number of weeks now so don't don't I'm stalking you.....

In my case it's my pound of chocolate a day habit that has me fecked

Ran a marathon for the craic last week......

Just a slow 4km in Marrakech.

Took in the sights of Paris lat week on a leisurely 8 miler

$hite 5k in Carnmore at the weekend.

Keep it going TBL, your one of the reasons why many of us still log on here.

Hard luck - just goes to show you a 5k PB isn't always as soft as you think. I'm no TbL but I've failed at least three times to lower my own, which is nearly as old as I am at this stage.
