Ordered this lad from sveeden for a 5er, grand job! this seems to have failed on my one and gave me a brown trouser moment saturday night in the city, not fun when you hit the brakes and the pedal is rock solid

I'd say that's equal to my recent brown trouser moment in my chrysler when the exact opposite happened.
Pedal straight to the floor in a 3 ton car going downhill.

Yep! gave it a bit of power hit the pedal, nothing hit it again, wouldnt budge, oh dear that bus is getting awful close, HANDBRAKE!!! :pac::o

At least in a manual you have a handbrake and can downgear!

Good thing about performance diesels (or "larger" engined ones anyway) is that they don't seem to have the same issue insuring a 3.0 diesel as a 3.0 petrol. Even if the diesel makes more bhp than the petrol.

Whats the process of going about getting a key for a car when all the existing keys are lost?

That's what I said but it was being handled by an extended family member (who deals with the mechanic) who takes any criticism VERY personally.

I've said as much. I'm ****ed off. Funnily enough I had only recently told my OH what to do in the event of brake failure when she strangley asked me. I was given out to for speaking like a teacher (which I am) when I told her. She said every detail came back when she realised what was happening.

Elderly neighbours house burned down at the weekend, the man was in bed, lucky to get out alive. Obviously he hadn't a chance to get his belongings, so they keys are melted in the rubble somewhere

Had to smash a window in the car to push it out of the way of the blaze!!

I'm assuming that there's a code whereby one can be remade?

I told mine I was driving 1.7 4-door Mazda saloon.
That's whats on te logbook.
Gave them the model name.
I told 'em every relevant fact.

Depends on the car really, if its a dated Japanese motor it's pretty simple to replace the locks & ignition barrel, more than a few of mine were on the flathead screwdriver.

My carina II had half the key stuck in it so it was never removed or locked, just used to put a wooly hat covering the key when parked in the town :pac:

if you know the keycode it's not so bad. a locksmith can cut you a key from the keycode, then you just either need to bring the car to the locksmith or the locksmith to the car for electronic coding of the key.

if your keycode is in the manual locked in the car, then a main dealer can get you a key from the reg or chassis number, but you still have to either get the car to the dealer or the dealer to the car for the electronic coding.

assuming it's a modern-ish car.

Here's a wild thought, if its a 04 astra it'd be the same as my own, what if you were to get an ignition barrel from a scrapped one along with the key? I'd to do that for mine when the barrel snapped
