Restaurant recommendation for special occasion

Hi all,

I'll be travelling to Galway over Christmas with Mrs. Loire to celebrate a milestone wedding anniversary. Can anyone recommend somewhere special? It doesn't have to be stiff / posh, but somewhere with excellent food, a good atmosphere and a bit refined?

New restaurant called Loam near the Radisson.

Very good value for what you get.

Relaxed and casual with lovely staff. I can't think of many places where the chef/owner makes a point of shaking hands with customers when they're leaving!

I'm always surprised that the Brasserie on the Corner http://brasseriegalway.com isn't mentioned more often on these restaurant threads. I would highly recommend it for the consistently good food, professional service and warm ambience. It's one of those restaurants where you can really relax because you know you're going to be well looked after. The team there is pretty much unchanged from when they opened two years ago and it really shows in the seamless service. I eat out in Galway a lot and the Brasserie has become my "go-to" restaurant for taking friends and visitors to.

OP, I think you and you wife would have a lovely evening there and I'm sure if you mentioned your special occasion to the manager Eimear in advance she would look after you with a nice table etc. Please note I have no connection whatsoever with this restaurant other than that of a happy customer

Yes, the restaurant is beside Blakes bar, you can enter the restaurant either through the bar or their own door on Eglinton Street. Enjoy!
