Hospital reveals extent of Bono's injuries

U2 frontman Bono broke his arm in six places and fractured his eye socket, hand and shoulder blade in his recent bicycle accident in New York.

The hospital where he was treated - New York's Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center - has also revealed he underwent two surgical procedures.

The arm fracture involved a five-hour operation on Sunday and was repaired with three metal plates and 18 screws.

The following day - Monday - Bono had surgery on his left hand.

Orthopaedic trauma surgeon, Dean Lorich, said the 54-year-old would require intensive and progressive therapy but that a full recovery was expected.

I know he's not the most liked man round these parts but that sounds fairly rough. Could have been killed apparently. Then there'd have been a mass outpouring of grief by those that had always said they hated him =p

Rather the plane crash survived him.

How many times did he fall off the bike. I'd say he was recognised, and a few irish tourists just stuck the boot in when he was on the ground.

Would have been nice to read something like....

After Bono regained consciousness following surgery, he complained of pain in his right leg and hip, unrelated to the injuries he was admitted for.....doctors advised that they had put in a new hip, a metal plate and a dozen screws, but told him not to worry, that these would be free of charge and on the house.
