The recording would be a good idea. I'd say leave it 5 seconds on most diesels that's probably even on the high side but if it was a freezing morning and it was its first start I'd leave it a few seconds.

To give a bit more info (apologies for not being more in-depth initially)

1. The 407 is a 2006

2. It does indeed have the glow plugs light on the dash, however, although it illuminates with the rest of the dash lights, it also goes out with the rest of them, too. I've never seen it linger around or stay on longer than the other lights.

3. Car was serviced a while back (6-8 weeks ago, at a guess) by an indy mechanic. I had a peugeot mechanic look at the car who told me that I should find out if the fuel filter had been changed. If not, that could be the issue. I rang the indy (who actually happens to know the Peugeot mechanic) and he confirmed the fuel filter had indeed been changed.

The light going on and off is correct,
chances are either your glow plugs are fooked or the circuit that turns them on isnt working.
but as above a HDI engine should only need its glow plugs to start wen the temp is in - figures.

Rang the motor factors earlier to check they had an oil and air filter for the car in stock.

The two of them are €24. Never having bought them before as my mechanic always got them, I thought it was quite a reasonable price, or am I just not used to buying this stuff?

So the car is going for it's surgery tonight. Cause the guy has so many cars waiting it will probably take a week.
Hope to God he doesn't get any issues with the injectors or I'm going to have to start working on a street corner

I've had a few diesel cars - 95 carina, 99 fiesta, 01 golf, 06 535d, 10 Superb.

In the first three they all needed a good 10-15 seconds on a cold start depending on weather sometimes more.
In the 535d I only ever saw the glow plug lights once or twice. It was a push button start and it just started, no glow plug cycling. The skoda, while being newer, still needed 3-5 seconds with the glow plug light on.

Depends on the car, and the car tech imo. For an '06 Hdi it shouldn't need more than couple of seconds unless it's balticly cold.

Seems cheap for 10 w 40 and oil filter for the busso as it needs 5.5 L. Filter is generally 6 euro or so.

It would depend on the filters really. You need to stick with decent brands of filters as otherswise they won't filter to as low a micron size as other obviously the lower the micron size they filter to the finer the particles they catch. Decent would be Mann mhale ufi that's of the top of my head I'm not sure who makes oem filters for Alfa though.

This is the motor factors my mechanic uses and recommends, and I've dealt with them before, so I'd be fairly confident in them

Some gimp just deleted a site i've been massing for the last 3 hours :mad::mad::mad: I'll be able to throw the downpipe back on the car later on and carry on looking at the boost pipes and hope i have a working car this weekend

I went out this morning, even remembered to turn on the phone's video camera to record it (I was certain I'd forget). Between turning the key, and faffing about with the camera to show the dash, etc, the key was turned (but not trying to turn the car over) for about 30 seconds.

When I did then try to start the car, it started with no bother at all. So maybe it is just a case of not giving it enough time in the mornings? (Though I usually do give it about 5-10 seconds).

Here's the video if anyone cares or is just curious, but it starts no bother. It took me so long to turn it over cos I was messing with the phone and trying to get it to focus, etc (it wouldn't).

Car is turned over at about 40 seconds, and at about 50 seconds i realise i can see myself in the Parrot screen

In the space of an hour and a half trip tonight in the pitch black I witnessed 4 different cars with no lights on what so ever and they weren't all in town. I came upon one guy doing a 3 point turn on a bad country road with no lights on. 2 golfs mk5 so it's not like the dashes are permanently lit up or anything would be very obvious that they have no lights on.

I spotted one following another car I came up behind it there was too cars in front of me so I wasn't directly behind it but it was a pitch Black Country road hoe would you even drive out it with no lights at all the was a golf plus so it would have been pitch black in the cabin and it wasn't blown bulbs there was no lights on at all front or back.

Another issue was I was behind a mondeo 02 model and genuinely had the worst headlights is ever seen when he was on dips they were like two tiny patches of light on the road then I passed him once I got up beside him I stuck on my heads and the whole road lot up got passed him he had his head light on the whole time and left them on they were so bad they didn't even blind anyone all bulbs working just truly atrocious bulbs. Speaking of auto lights I'm growing too reliant on them it's a bad habit really although I still over ride then during heavy rain or something although there normally never far wrong when they come on.

Clutch, full h-pattern, sequential or paddles.

Feedback on the rumblestrips, you can feel the bumps in the road as they pass under the car, if you get into a drift the steering self centres itself.
