Record a programme

I'd like to record a couple of radio progs but no longer have access to tapes. Anyone aware of digital solutions or any other options . thank you (Mods: my apologies if you consider this is posted in wrong location)

The TuneIn Pro app has a record feature if you have a smartphone, the cost of the app is probably cheaper than the cost of what tapes used to be.

If you have a recordable Saorview box, you can record any of the RTÉ radio stations as you would a TV channel.

There's a few ways that I've done this...

1) Use your Saorview box to record the radio onto a USB stick.. Only downside to this is the files are stored as Message Transport Streams (.mts files) when Mp3 would be preferable and they can be huge in size..
2) Find the podcast online and download as an MP3, if it's available.. An awful lot of the shows are available on podcast now..
3) Get a radio tuner card / USB stick for your PC. I have a Hauppauge card that does both digital and analog TV, and FM and digital radio.. I just click the record button in the software and it records whatever you are watching/listening straight to your PC. If you are buying one of these you need to make sure that it will do both FM and digital radio. If you need to record Newstalk for example, you will not be able to do this with a Digital tuner.
4) Output your stereo to 3.5mm input on your soundcard (or just put a mic in front of the radio :pac:), and record it in one of the many free audio software packages like Audacity.. This gives you the additional advantage that you have the ability to edit out ad breaks as well.

I have recorded RTE radio to USB stick on a Walker WP645TS-HD Saorview approved combo box and its very unsatisfactory. Record an hour-long radio programme and want to 'Fast Foward' to say 30 minute in ? Impossible on this box, you can only play from the start and wait !

Playing back TV recordings are not restricted in this way, why playback of recorded radio (or external MP3 recordings) is restricted with no << or >> allowed I do not know.

The recording format will not play on anything on a PC or any other device, it will only play on the Walker box it was recorded on!

OP Here's a longshot. Is there any chance you have a car stereo that takes SD card or USB memory stick? If I'm getting in and out of the car over the course of the day and I want to hear the full Joe Duffy and Derek Mooney show,(The Derek Mooney bit was me trying to be funny), I just hit the rec button. I come home , stick the card in the laptop and listen and fast forward/rewind as I please.
